Redoe Alliance

An Oath Forged in Stone and Song

Elves and dwarves—opposites in every way, yet bound together not by fate, but by necessity. When the world turned against them, they chose not to fade, but to endure.

Overview

The Redoe Alliance stands as a testament to the survival of two ancient peoples: the Dwarves of the Herenyakal Mountains and the Elves of the Sunset Plains. Born from desperation, solidified by diplomacy, and tested by war, the alliance became the last bastion of non-human power in a world increasingly dominated by the relentless expansion of mankind. Though once bitter rivals, the dwarves and elves of Kallonia set aside their differences to forge a new future—one rooted in mutual survival. Bound by an arranged marriage between Prince Germund of the Dwarves and Princess Talmani of the Elves, the alliance grew into a formidable force, shaping the political and cultural landscape of the continent.

Their greatest achievement was the founding of Hyste Talma, a sanctuary where both races could flourish, shielded from the encroaching tides of Human ambition. However, despite centuries of cooperation, the alliance remains fragile, always teetering between unity and division, held together by tradition, necessity, and shared history.

Founding and History

Before the world knew the name of Queen Anara, before The Fortress of Dragsa sent forth its beastkin legions, dwarves and elves roamed freely across Kallonia. They were the architects of civilization, carving mountains into strongholds and shaping forests into towering cities. Then came the humans. Unlike elves, who valued tradition, or dwarves, who built for eternity, humans moved quickly—expanding, conquering, and adapting with a speed that no other race could match. The elves and dwarves, once masters of the land, suddenly found themselves outnumbered and outpaced.

As human kingdoms rose around them, the dwarves and elves of Kallonia faced a choice: stand alone and perish, or unite and endure. Thus, the rulers of their people—King Ebbe of the Mountains and Queen Alma of the Sunset Plains—chose the latter. To bind their people in unbreakable unity, they arranged the first-ever dwarven-elven marriage between their heirs. On 2nd Bloommere, 1782 BAR, Prince Germund and Princess Talmani were wed, sealing an alliance that would shape the fate of both races. Their people, bound by the vows of their rulers, began the difficult process of integration—one that would culminate in the founding of Hyste Talma and the creation of the Redoe Alliance.

Leadership and Structure

The Redoe Alliance is not a single kingdom, but rather a coalition of dwarven and elven strongholds, bound together by treaties, trade agreements, and military pacts. At its heart lies Hyste Talma, a city ruled by a council of dwarves and elves, where representatives from both peoples debate matters of law, war, and governance. The Council of Stone and Song governs the alliance, consisting of both dwarven thane-lords and elven highborn elders. Each member stronghold retains its autonomy but pledges soldiers, resources, and allegiance to the alliance’s greater cause. The alliance is bound by The Compact of Redoe, an agreement ensuring mutual defense, economic cooperation, and the preservation of shared traditions.

Though the alliance has held for centuries, it is not without its fractures. Old prejudices die hard, and even within Hyste Talma, dwarves and elves often find themselves at odds over governance, trade, and the allocation of resources.

Role and Influence

The Redoe Alliance stands as the last great non-human coalition in Kallonia, a shield against those who would seek to dominate or exploit them. Militarily, the alliance maintains a formidable army, combining dwarven resilience with elven agility. Dwarven heavy infantry forms the backbone of their forces, while elven archers and spellcasters provide long-range support. The alliance also serves as a center of knowledge, with Hyste Talma housing The Grand Library, an uncensored archive preserving elven, dwarven, and even forbidden human knowledge. Culturally, it is a haven where artistry, craftsmanship, and philosophy thrive, blending the best of both peoples.

Their influence extends beyond their borders, with envoys and traders reaching distant lands, ensuring that the legacy of elves and dwarves does not fade into history.

Philosophy and Culture

Though fundamentally different in temperament, dwarves and elves of the Redoe Alliance have developed a culture of competitive camaraderie. Dwarves favor practicality and efficiency, while elves prize elegance and nuance—yet both value excellence above all else. Annual competitions, from brewing contests to crafting duels, reinforce their cultural fusion. Intermarriage is rare, but strong friendships between the races are common, especially in Hyste Talma.

Despite centuries of cooperation, deep-seated differences remain. Dwarves still roll their eyes at elven poetry, while elves still scoff at dwarven stubbornness. And yet, when battle calls, they stand side by side, proving that their unity is stronger than their rivalry.

Challenges and Rivalries

The Redoe Alliance is constantly tested, both from within and without. Internal disputes arise as dwarves and elves often clash over governance, resource allocation, and military strategy. Some factions wish for greater integration, while others push for separation. External threats loom in the form of the Fortress of Dragsa, an ever-present enemy seeking to weaken and destroy the alliance. Meanwhile, human empires, though fractured, continue to expand, pressuring the alliance’s borders. Should the alliance falter, it risks being torn apart by the same divisions that once kept elves and dwarves at odds.

Legacy and Impact

The Redoe Alliance has defied time, standing firm against all odds. Though it began as a marriage of necessity, it has endured for centuries, proving that cooperation can overcome even the deepest rivalries. Hyste Talma, the heart of the alliance, stands as a testament to what elves and dwarves can achieve together. Their alliance may not be perfect, but it is necessary. And as long as both races draw breath, they will fight to ensure that neither is ever again left behind by history.
