Nine-Pointed Wreath

If it truly exists is not important, my dear. The Wreath has become a symbol, an embodiment of the Samnii people. And as such is worth more than a thousand thousand diamond fit crowns.
— Hemeas Cridais, Archivar of Sur
In a world as ancient and mysterious as this, there is no shortage of legendary artefacts. Treasures that would turn any beggar into a king overnight and could shape the future of entire kingdoms. To those remnants of Vardania's southern tribes, destroyed so long ago by Feran hand, the Nine-Pointed Wreath is one such artefact. Made from dark-grey iron, forged in the fires of an ancient volcano, it is a rather unimpressive sight. A simple ring with nine thin spikes distributed evenly across it. At the base, each spike is marked by a single rune, each symbolizing a different southern tribe.   Many centuries ago, long before the Ferans came with fire and faith, there was a warlord who united the tribes of the south. He forged a kingdom out of the Madairi people and fought with the Kings of the Avitae, Rhovarin and Ganagari. The crown he forged himself and on his deathbed gave it to his only daughter. For many years thereafter, this Queen would rule with just as much power and vigour as her father had done. And her son would continue this path after she had passed away. This final King would rule for many years until he was struck down by a shadow from the west. His court burned and the crown vanished. The tribes dispersed and would never again form a single nation. Today, the Madairi are ruled by other lords, Avitae and Feran, and most memories of ancient glory have vanished into nothingness. However, some stories still remain. Tales of a brighter future. Of a King or Queen that will find the Wreath and raise the long lost kingdom from ashes and dust. One day.
Most historians regard the Wreath as nothing more than a myth. But I know that it could exist. We know so little about the past, shaded in Twilight as it is. The earth under us may hide many truths we have forgotten, both willingly and accidentally.

"...struck down by a shadow from the west." That's vague and ominous.   "The crown he forged himself and on his deathbed gave it to his only daughter. " Maybe, for clarity, reword it to "He forged the crown himself and gave it to his only daughter on his deathbed."   Sounds like a great maguffin for a 'one true king' plotline.

I love the opening quote. There is something about a symbol that has much more power than any physical object.
