Death Weaving
The Curse of Undeath
This is perhaps the most complex and of necromantic arts. As it demands that the necromancer also is a skilled shaman. For this art uses the power of Spirit Weaving on the dying to create beings of undeath. When preformed the necromancer needs a dying being and something to act as a vessel for said dying beings spirit. The vessel may be anything, but if it is a item it most be perfectly whole.
In contrast to Spirit Weaving, this art is most commonly used on items. Such as jewels or amulets mostly. The reason why weapons or tools are seldom used is because the moment the vessel is broken, the spirit whit in it will start to leak out. And as the spirit slowly leaves the item so does its power and the mind of the dead trapped in the item.
When a dead body is used instead of a item said body most be more completely destroyed. It is not enough to just stab a wraith, you most cut out its heart or cut of its head. But wraiths are seldom created as they have minds of their own. And therefore only necromantic cults create this the greatest of undead monsters.
Last but not least a dying beings spirit could be placed in another living beings body to create a revenant. This can either be done by simply placing the spirit of the dying in a living being and hoping that the dying bodies spirit is stronger then the spirit living in the mortal vessel. Or by preforming a extremely complex magical combination ritual. In which one necromancer rips out the spirit of the living while another necromancer puts the spirit of the dying into the emptying body. The problem is of coarse to keep the two spirits separate as there more or less in the same body.
Effect
Death Relic
All the power, memories and consciousness of the dying bodies spirit is slowly put in the item and trapped there until it breaks. All that power, wisdom and recollections will can be called upon anytime someone holds this death relic.Wraith
All the power, memories and consciousness of the dying bodies spirit is slowly placed in a dead body. The spirit there after fuel and control the undead being that this creates. Said spirit retains all of its magical powers and skills, however dead bodies are seldom as physically capable as living ones.Revenant
All the power, memories and consciousness of the dying bodies spirit is slowly forced in to another living beings body. Most often another mortal, but animals can be used as well. The spirit of the dead those in this way become a undead that is not dead at all. Rather it's a ghost riding a living being like a horse.Side/Secondary Effects
Death Relic
Not so much a side effect for the necromancer but, being trapped in a death relic is very painful for the mind trapped whit in. Some minds can't handle this imprisonment and go mad. Others try to get the relic to break. For if even the smallest crack appears on this relics the spirit trapped whit in starts to leak out.Wraith
It is not fully known why, but wraiths often lose some of their ability to feel emotions. They more often then not grow cold and hateful. Many also come to truly hate their creators or "saviors".Revenant
If the mortal body is not made empty the spirit of the being that was born to this body will still exist whit in it. Therefore many revenants become a battleground where the spirit of the dead and the spirit of the living fight for control. It has been said that just like riding a horse, a mortal vessel most either allow it self to be ridden or be broken.Source

"Rather it's a ghost riding a living being like a horse." So, could the wraith lose control, as a rider would a horse's?
Well no and yes. See a "wraith" is this world is what you get when you force the spirit of a dying person into a corpse. What you are asking about is what, at the time of me answering this comment, I call a "Mortal vessel" which I think I'll rename to a "Revenant". Which is what you get when you put the spirit of a dying person, or animal if that's your thing, into another living being. And yes a "Mortal vessel" (Soon the be renamed in to "Revenant" has a moment of weakness it could lose control. I hope this answers your question.
