The Ox War

Around 25 years ago Marsir Eyjariki and Heynland went to war. The war lasted only three days and ended in a draw. It started when a merchant from Marsir Eyjariki tried to sell a ox to another merchant from Heynland.

The Heynlander said the ox was sick, the Eyjariki did not. Their argument turned into a brawl and that brawl escalated into a street fight. Eventually the guard was called in. As they were in Heynland the judgment was skewed against the Eyjariki. Marsir Eyjariki did not like one of their merchants getting arrested so they sent a letter asking to get him back, Heynland responded very rudely and the two went to war.

The Heynlander, not wanting to be known as the guy who started a war over an ox, offered to buy the ox. The Eyjariki agreed if he paid double, he was forced to acquiesce. This happened on the first day. The next one was spent transporting the ox over to Heynland from Marsir Eyjariki. They used a warship as they were still technically at war, this one happens to have had a catapult mounted on it.

They launched the, in fact sick, ox onto the shore of Heynland and declared the war over. This is not the stupidest war that has been fought in Útgarðar and it will not be the last -Snorri Sturluson.
