Marsir Eyjariki

Located in the lower center of the Sea of Winters is Marsir Eyjariki, the kingdom of islands. It is a large archipelago of small and large islands connected under the Konungr. Many small island jarldoms all pledge allegiance to the Konungr who in turn helps settle disputes between them with their judgement.

The islands make a large amount of money through trade with the other nations of Útgarðar. While Heynland does trade out of the Sea of Winters most of Marsir Eyjariki's trade is internally between the other kingdoms. They have trade deals with most other kingdoms protecting their merchants and facilitating trade.

Their military is second to Viddleland in strength, but unlike Heynland most of the troops are locally sourced. They don't like to go to war as it disrupts trade but are prepared to defend their lands. They, like most other nations, go raiding to gather more treasure. Their forces may not be as savage or numerous as Viddlelanders or as heavily armored as the dwarves of Hammerdeep but what they lack in ferocity, numbers, or gear they make up for in reliability.

The troops are organised into a effective command structure with enough numbers to stop any shortcomings. Each company is made up of people from a specific village or city, each company is led by the jarl of the island, and the total force is commanded by the Konungr.

The problems come from the fact that the court politics of the jarls influence command decisions. One force may not come to help another because the jarls in charge are rivals, this may cause the battle to be lost. The forces tend to not share information and try to one up each other. Needless to say causes problems for greater campaigns. The Konungr tries to reign it in but this often fails.

Despite the military failings Marsir Eyjariki is still a power not to be trifled with. It is one of the greatest nation in Útgarðar, despite the internal divisions.

¨Generalist, not a common strategy but not a bad one. I do admit this nation will most likely last the longest. But it will be as a ember not a flame. It is better to burn out than fade away¨
