Hammerdeep-Kingdom

The great dwarf kingdom of the north. Hammerdeep, Kjarnarrik-Immrekmolbrut in dwarvish, is one of the greatest of the dwarven civilizations with a history spanning back thousands of years. It is the main gathering of dwarves in the north and has the largest concentration of them for a months travel across the land.

The kingdom is made up of a number of separate towns, cities, and fortresses layered under the Orv Urngorr mountain range. The kingdom is managed by a council of clanlords each one also being the head of one of those fortresses. The largest of these fortresses is Hammerdeep the capital city of Hammerdeep. It makes sense in dwarvish.

The kingdom is the quintessential dwarven kingdom. A rich history vigorously cataloged, a booming industry of metallurgy and mining, as well as a rich love of ale and mead. They primarily export ingots of metal, weaponry, jewels, jewelry, and realy creative insults.

They do not have that good of an agricultural industry considering most of the land is underground. They do grow mushrooms to eat and use as lumber as well as raise Horn Beetles as mounts and food but they also import a heavy amount from other nations. They have a treaty with Galtarland giving free trade for food merchants and levying less import taxes on them. From Viddleland they import herbs, spices, as well as the elusive and strong Wildmjød.

The people of Hammerdeep are a proud and stubborn group with an appreciation for hard work and skill in craft. This does not mean they do not have art and culture. The famous Hammerdeep Shadow Plays are a expert example of combining art, technology, and dwarven throat singing. Hammerdeep street performers are practically full theater and engendering troops.

The kingdom was founded in 1943 BD by lord Jaznuid Hammerhorn of clan Ironmace. In the intervening centuries the kingdom prospered. Riches flowed in to the halls, and the greed of the people grew. But as so often happens they dug to deep and unearthed a sealed horror. In a strange twist of fate a Balor of the Abyss was imprisoned deep beneath the earth right under where the fortress had been founded.

Dlmhr vbeea, Death and Gloom, enslaved the people of Hammerdeep save for one. Boic Bravesoul, known as Boic Silverring at the time. He resisted the demon's power and plunged a diamond into its skull using his jewelers hammer. He then spoke with the power of Moradin proclaiming banishment to the demon, "I purge this mountain hear my voice! You shall leave you have no choice! Free from sin we shal rejoice!" He was proclaimed King Under the Mountain and revolutionized the society of Hammerdeep, his greatest achievement was able to convince the dwarves to view wealth as a means to an end not the end of their goals.

After his reign it was decreed in his will that no one dwarf should have the power he had and so the position of King was to be abolished and a council of clan lords would be established. This last decree has been honored for over a thousand years by the clanlords, then after Galtarland ended its own kingship the two nations have become staunch allies. The Kingdom of Hammerdeep stands out as a shining beacon of strength in the hostile North.

Tomb of Boic

The tomb of Boic is .one of the best hidden and well defended tombs in the world. This is to the point that the dwarves of Hammerdeep encourage treasure seeker to try and find it because they find it funny. Only one person has managed to get in Snorri Sturluson who broke in one night made a sketch of the tombs interior and left a copy in the council chamber

"I admit I am not the biggest fan of dwarves. Sure they make amazing weaponry like my spear. I just don't get Moradin's folk. I do admire the kingdom though, it is quite impressive. Oh if Boic had been a nord he would have been my favorite"
