In the northern region of Chatau’s Landing sits the Terrans largest prison complex - Iron Sky. Named so aptly for the dull, dark grey walls and ceilings of the complex as well as being named after the original warden, Maxwell Sky.

Home to criminals of all kinds, Iron Sky has a number of sectors to host Terran criminals based on the severity or type of crime they have committed. Each sector also has its own in-built security measures to account for how potentially violent its criminals can be and the correct force that can be applied to stop any violent or untoward behaviour.

Sectors Within Iron Sky

Sectors - or ‘compounds’ as those outside of the prison tend to call them - are the different security levels of the prison. Each one contains a different classification of criminal.

They are named using the Greek alphabet, starting with ‘Alpha’ as the lowest security sector and ending with ‘Omega’ as the highest security sector.

Example Sectors

Alpha Sector

The Alpha Sector houses criminals classified as ‘no risk of violent outburst’ that have been found guilty of petty crimes. At most, they are in Iron Sky serving a two year prison sentence and more often than not they get out on probation subject to community service.

Security wise, incarcerated individuals are allowed to mix in both communal and dining areas as often as they like. From 10am to 10pm, they are allowed out of their cells - any other time they must spend within the confines of their cells.

Guards in Alpha are given access to the basics - a standard issue taser, Iron Sky issued guard uniform, etc. They also have access to tactical riot gear, but usually if anything kicks off in Alpha that requires it they call in some guards that are usually on duty in Omega. Lockdowns are rare and typically only last for 4 or 5 hours.

Omega Sector

The Omega Sector houses criminals classified as ‘violent’ or ‘extremist’ that have been found guilty of murder, singular or otherwise. Their sentences are often lifelong, but not a strict requirement for their placement.

Security wise, Omega is further divided into groups based on cell placement so that not all incarcerated criminals are out in the communal or dining area at the same time. Incarcerated criminals are given two and a half hours of allocated time in the dining area and four hours of allocated time in the communal areas. The rest of the time they spend confined to their cells.

All guards in Omega are equipped with full riot gear and there are a handful of elite ‘specialists’ with access to enhanced riot suits. In the event that the guards are informed of, or catch wind of, anything illegal occurring in Omega, a full 48 hour lockdown is enforced and all cells are searched twice over the 48 hour period.

Other Areas in Iron Sky

There are 5 yards outside the building, some shared between sectors, which are classed as communal areas for the sake of any time allocations. This provides incarcerated criminals with a bit of fresh air, should they choose to go outside of course. Each sector has allocated days on which they can spend their time in the designated yard to avoid mixing criminals from different sectors. As you can imagine, the yards are more heavily guarded than a good portion of the inner sectors and tactical teams are always on hand should any fighting break out.

Alongside the areas for criminals, there are also on-site bedrooms for guards (for ease of access), administration rooms, and three ‘command centers’ for the warden and higher ups to use. There is more than one command center so that a) should prisoners ever escape, they won't know where the warden or other officials are and b) allows for better control during rioting situations. If one command center is overrun for whatever reason, the warden can always initiate full scale lockdown protocols from another command center and override any technical actions in the system taken by the prisoners.

“You know, rumour has it Private Ziegler spent a month in the Omega Compound of Iron Sky.”

“She.. what, no way!”

“Uh huh. It’s real hush hush though, only Captain Kitazawa and Major Aarons know what she was in there for. Whatever it was, has to have been real bad - the Omega Compound is no joke.”

Escape from Iron Sky - UGY 6951

Did you know? There has only ever been one successful escape attempt from Iron Sky.

Lillian Horner, 24 at the time, was in Sigma Sector when riots broke out across the compound. Some believe it was Lillian herself who coordinated the riots, but this has never been proven.

She left the rank and file criminals, took advantage of a guard by pretending she needed medical attention, stole the guard’s gear and killed her, leaving the guard’s body locked in a storage room. She then began to help the other guards round up the prisoners and put them back in their cells.

By the time anyone realised that Lillian was not accounted for, she had already walked right out the front door and returned to her home in the criminal underbelly of the Golden Falls. After which point, Lillian proved impossible to catch, and the warden at Iron Sky was left to pick up the pieces of his embarrassing legacy.

“How'd ya do it, Horner? Iron Sky’s s’pose to be an inescapable fortress.”

“Darlin’, if I gave an answer to that question to everyone I ever met, Iron Sky would be empty. Let me tell you one little secret though - it helps that Warden Quincey is an incompetent ass that doesn’t give two shits about protecting his crew.”
