Auric Lights

An ancient source of mystical light and a clue to the history of magic in Melior.

World / Regions / Jolundria / The Aurus / Auric Lights
Covered deep within the snow of the Aurus - ancient ruins from before the time of The Unknown hold powerful technologies and magics lost to time itself.   Auric lights are one such of these - sealed lanterns and jars with no visible opening hold a magical light source that look similar to the green-blue Auric lights that dance across the Aurus at night.   How the ancients managed to capture (or perhaps replicate) the Auric lights inside of glass is a complete mystery to the scholars that have delved into these icy ruins. It was such a surprise to them to dig down so deep and find the ruins fully lit, as if by daylight. The discovery is of great importance as it shows that there was once a time before The Unknown era where Melior once had magic. Powers such as these were thought to have been new and introduced to the world only fifty years ago during the events of The Rupture.

Research

Scholars from across the Jolundrian Empire have been trying to decode the ancient Auric language for thousands of years in an effort to understand the lost histories recorded in the crumbling ruins across Jolundria. If the glyphs of this lost language can be decoded or translated, then perhaps the scholars will be able to find some kind of written word that documents the Auric lights, maybe even how to make them.   The only specimens that have been recovered so far are so rare that they’re under close supervision for study - all other vessels in the ruins were shattered long ago.   If this ancient technology can be relearned, it could change the face of Melior in every industry and city.

Ancient Auric was the language used by the lost civilization of The Aurus. The glyphs have been researched by scholars for thousands of years, yet their secrets are still a mystery.

"...there was once a time before The Unknown era where Melior once had magic. Powers such as these were thought to have been new and introduced to the world only fifty years ago during the events of The Rupture."   Now THAT is interesting. This is the sort of mystery I could really sink my teeth into. Was magic banished from the world hundreds of years prior only to return? who would do that, and why? And why return now?   "If this ancient technology can be relearned, it could change the face of Melior in every industry and city."   Are candles/lanterns really expensive to maintain at the moment? Do the people of Melior have gas lamps, I wonder?

Pieces of the past are gradually being uncovered, but more research needs to be done to paint a clear picture of history from so long ago with the scholar's limited new knowledge of magic in the world!   The discovery and invention of Glowjelly made from the bioluminescence of certain species of jellyfish in Melior has started to replace many lighting sources across Melior, but the majority of places still use lanterns.

This is fascinating! I love the image of the runes alongside the article, and I agree with Emy, I really want one too :D Capturing the beauty of the Auric lights in a jar would be mesmerizing

ancient technologies and magics lost to the ages is my favorite cup of tea and you certainly serve a good one. I would love to see what the Auric lights look like trapped in a jar, it sounds stunning.

You should check out the The 5 Shudake, if you want of course.
