Constellation Light

The debate over precisely what the Constellations are has been going on since they first arrived in the sky with The Dimming. For the The Astronomers it has been the main focus of their research for over a hundred years. The founders of the research institute had surmised early on that the light from the Constellations was having a much bigger impact on the world than most people realised. They began in earnest to study these new additions to the sky, with a large part of that research given over to the study of light.
It didn't take them long to realise that the Constellations didn't all give off the same kind of light, and some were even invisible to the naked eye. Over the years experimenting with this light, they realised that the light from the Constellations didn't always behave the same as "normal" light; the differences were slight but they were there. It was almost as if there were some kind of background resonance off setting the wavelengths in inexplicable ways. It still behaved enough like normal light for most of the usual rules to apply, albeit with the ocasional adjustor applied to the figures.
The Astronomers began using Constellation light as source of power for both heating, and of course lighting, quite a few years ago. As the town began to expand they found ways to extend this power to the town as well. Light is also used to power the airships that they use and several other ingenious inventions that the clever townsfolk have come up with.
Constellation light also plays a huge part in the lives of Brighteyes. Not only do many people believe it is the source of their strange abilities, they are also able to manipulate the light to create sometimes quite grand effects.
