Summer Light Festival

While there may be no light from the sun, it still continues to heat the planet. This means that seasons still occur, and along with them, seasonal festivals and holidays. One such of these festivals is held at Seat of power every year in the middle of Summer. It is a festival celebrating light and all of its creative uses, a way to demonstrate that even though there is no sun there are still many ways to bring light to our lives.   The festival takes place over two days, with the main attraction usually being the sky laser show put on by The Astronomers just before the closing ceremony. The main streets of the town are filled with stalls selling food, drinks, arts & crafts, and other rare treats. Scattered throughout the more open spaces of town, stages are set up for artists to put on shows. These shows range from shadow puppetry, to fire dancers, to displays of new inventions using light, among many other things.   The two days are a holiday and everyone is off work, apart from those whose roles are essential to the running and safety of the town. But they will split the days between them so everyone gets at least one day to enjoy the festivities. Aside from participating in the festivities, people also use this time to catch up with friends, and the bars and cafes are often full of small groups relaxing together.   At the end of the first day there is a large feast held in the park at the centre of town. Everyone contributes to the feast in some way so it is an eclectic mix of all sorts of different styles and flavours. The food is laid out on sturdy buffet tables and practically every table and chair in the town is brought out to fill the rest of the space. One end is kept clear for a stage where musicians and dancers take turns entertaining the crowd.   The laser show is the event that most people look forward to the most. The Astronomers set up a series of lenses on platforms in the centre of the lake and shine coloured lights through them. Through some clever manipulation of light they are able to create dazzling displays of coloured beams in the sky, and on those years when it is also cloudy, the effect is even more spectacular.
