River Fever

River fever is a common disease in the wetter areas of Faerie. It is caused by a strain of water bacteria, and typically targets children.
Symptoms
Similar to The Storm Plague River Fever starts with a fever, chills, headaches, and nausea. However, in the second stage the victim’s joints become inflamed as well, which can cause permanent damage. Unlike the Storm Plague, River Fever isn’t often deadly anymore.
Treatment
River Fever can be treated though both magical and scientific means. However, many of the methods used today are relatively new, so many people still go or have gone without treatment.
Sequela
The damage caused by River Fever often leaves the victims with chronic joint pain and headaches.
Prevention
The strain of bacteria that causes River Fever is most prominent in the spring and early summer. As such, it is recommend that parents keep their children away from creeks, springs, or rivers during these times.
History
River Fever has existed pretty much forever. The symptoms are common enough that tracing down an exact first recorded instance would be impossible. The bacteria was first discovered in River Centre following a bad outbreak in the early Eternity Dynasty. Many influential figures have had River Fever, including the last Queen of the Faerie Empire Kamaria Oriole.
