Ædeos

Scope

The motivation behind building Ædeos

Most of writings that inspire Ædeos come from the science. Not from any specific branch of it, but rather from the process of discovering something new. There is always some mystery to it. Using the known to uncover the unknown. Fighting against our habits to break the wall of "it is as it's always been".

Ædeos unfolds mainly in a symbolic manner, featuring archetypes, feelings, emotions and immaterial concepts as beings one can almost physically interact with. In some cases they can even be clad in a living form -- I enjoy the thought of talking to the forces of nature and thoughts, feelings, emotions as if they were separate beings, present in a place remote, only partially accessible.

The goal of the project

My main goal is to discover and explore symbols and archetypes and understand them better. I feel that by doing so I will understand myself better and be more conscious about my inner world.

Understanding how my unconscious part (in the Jungian sense) sees the world is a big added value. Since many of the archetypes and symbols are shared throughout various groups and cultures this can get me closer to understanding motivations of other people. And these can be pretty challenging, especially with cultural clash or a bias.

Some ideas are crazy, beautiful and intense. I want to convey the way I feel them, so others may see the world as crazy, beautiful and intense.

Ædeos's Unique Selling point

Ædeos is a place where the immaterial world became part of the everyday reality. While everyone has heard about it, only selected people interact with it regularly. These people are called skalds, and similarly to scientists in our world, they enter the immaterial realm, searching for new ideas, pushing the advancement forward.

Theme

Genre

Ædeos is Fantasy, with a scientific twist to it. The technology level is somewhere in between Bronze Age/Iron Age.

Reader Experience

The stories and worldbuilding are moving, conveying feelings of curiosity, dread, passion, love, despair...

Reader Tone

This world does not have one specific tone. Instead it follows the convention where specific parts of it follow the tone, e.g., stories connected to one deity will often be darker, while others may be focused on the feelings of awe.

Recurring Themes

  1. The streaks of silky mist tracing fragile paths to the unknown, the ghosts of the ephemeral auroras.
  2. The dark water depths seemingly with no bottom, able to drown any thought, any emotion, any living creature.
  3. Cold eye of the full moon piercing through the mind

Character Agency

My aim is to make the characters feel they can significantly change the world but that there are limits to what they can do given their current knowledge, powers, etc. Oftentimes this limit will not be obvious at the first glance. At that point I want the character to push forward and embrace the change.
