Reading Challenge 2023.02

With some time management added to my life I start a thing, which I hope will become a habit: reading ~1k worth of WA articles a day. It's not going to be done every day. As I noted previously in my Journal, the weekends are off the charts to get some rest. And while it sounds a bit crazy, daily reading is challenging for me, because it breaks a habit of prioritising other stuff, usually: coding, listening to podcasts or doomscrolling Discord.   With the February calendar looking like so:   Mo Tu We Th Fr St Su
The end of February will be dedicated to updates and planning, so I might do some reading then, but not 100% sure.

Reading

Week one

Rune Deer by Mochimanoban

Enchanting. The species reminds me a bit of the Nightwalker from Mononoke Hime by Ghibli studio with some significant differences. Rune deers are a species similar to deer but tall as trees. They use their psychic powers to eat, fend off against predators and help their ofsspring land softly on earth after being born.   Runos - inhabitants of Maloruno?   A neat section on predators and why they are terrifying opponents to Rune Deers. White Tigers are small but smart — they attack the legs, then aim for the orb (source of psychic powers). Maze Hawks are huge — their wingspan roughly the height of Rune Deers. They simply attack and break the orb, then fly off with the enormous carcass to their enormous nests.   Females > Males   Would be nice to know why. How are they superior to males?

Aethyrns by Theiket

Aethyrns are small, spindly insects with a peculiar affinity to light. Seeing them flying throughout the skies can make you wonder if the mind is playing a trick. Interesting, and reminding me that Theiket is working on a Bestiary for Pronathea.

Sneezing Death by CrazyEddie

That article fits so well with the February 2023 beast challenge. :D It would be awesome to know White Shutterfly a bit more and it turns out Eddie has already written it. It's a nice take on an unpleasant real-life condition taken to an extremity of causing death. Life is full of surprises.

Week two

That one was a blast. Not only did I not proceed with any of the February plans, I also managed to have a breakdown and life was a mess for a few days. However, it looks like everythings set in a new, better equilibrium. I was more active in real life and made some delicious comfort food. Taking my mind off the fiction world boosted my creativity too (I write this on Sunday Feb, 12th). There are some chances I will make a tiny progress today, but no pressure, since it's a planned day off.

Week three, and four, and five as well

The breakdown ripple turned out to be bigger than I anticipated and no reading was done during that time. The truth is I stepped away from worldbuilding and writing at that time as well. I needed some time off to rethink a lot of stuff, which resulted in a few ideas, particularly for the Introduction I finished slightly behind schedule.

Conclusions

Life turned out to have a lot of surprises and I did much less than planned. That said, the three articles I read gave me a lot of fun. They made me think of inspiration and different sources of it as well. I'm looking forward to reading some stuff in March. Maybe this time it'll be more than three short articles.
