Traditional First Stew
Since mushrooms are a common food source, it is important to be able to correctly identity and properly prepare edible mushrooms. Children are taught from an early age to be cautious around mushrooms and to identity poisonous and edible varieties. As they become more responsible and independent, they learn to prepare and cook food. When a teen's parents or guardians believe they are capable, they are tasked with gathering mushrooms to making a stew to prove their abilities. An experienced adult checks the mushrooms but neither confirms nor denies the edibility of the foraged specimens, unless they are fatal. If the teen falls ill they should also know what treatment is needed, but in such a case the adult will help them -- however, they will have failed the test and must attempt it again at a later stage when deemed ready.
