Sapient Blood Addiction

Sapient Blood Addiction is a medical condition that affects exclusively vampires and draculs. The consumption of sapient blood, both Human and Parahuman can cause powerful euphoric effects in vampiric sapients. When consumed in moderate quantities, there are usually no lasting effects and and has a very limited risk of inducing in this condition.   While this condition is rare today, it used to be much more widespread up to the early years of the Prague Accords of 1734 and it is widely believed that most vampire nobles of the time were afflicted with this condition, as they took nourishment primarily from human blood.   There are reports that the condition is resurfacing in certain aristocratic circles and vampiric sex workers.

Symptoms

The initial symptoms of Sapient Blood Addiction are irritability, heightened aggressivity, and violent mood swings. It quickly progresses to a state of unsatiated thirst for more sapient blood and all other nourishment feels unsatisfying. As sapient blood is not legally sold, vampires and draculs may resort to victims to drain, normally gorging themselves on quantities of blood far exceeding what is required to sustain themselves. As the primary source victims are humans, as they are both more numerous and physically weaker, this often has disastrous consequences.

Cultural Reception

Society in general has a repugnant view of the condition.  While some may have prided themselves in the distant past about their ability to openly feast on human blood, it is today a great source of shame for the vampiric community at large, and attract unwanted attention both by law enforcement and angry mobs.  There have been reports that some vampire councils have individuals tasked with handling such problems.
