Steimare Lini Settlement in 13 | World Anvil

Steimare Lini

Steimare Lini is a northern vanara settlement. This settlement is not the permanent home of vanaras, but rather their winter home. During summer they range through the tundra to take advantage of the plants and animals that spring to life then. In the winter, the sea provides for food, as well as entertainment, as vanaras eat the sea snails and keep the shells for snails' fight.

A matter of survival

Living in the tundra during the winter is very difficult. Many animals migrate to the south or hibernate and the plants are almost impossible to reach due to the layers of ice and snow. The vanaras deal with the winter by travelling to the coast and settling there for the winter. Steimare Lini is one of such winter settlements which dot the northern coastline of Friac’seoue.   On the coast, the vanaras are able to fish and hunt the occasional large mammal, such as whales. Sharks are uncommon, but vanaras prize them and go to great lengths to hunt one. The sharks provide waterproof and strong pelts, meat, and oil for their lanterns.

Winter houses

The northern vanaras build the houses every year. Once the spring arrives and the snow starts to melt, the vanaras pack up the pelts and bone poles that form their tents and pack them away. The leave them stored away under rocks until the next autumn.   Every nuclear family has its own tent. A vanara couple is unable to move together until they have gathered the necessary ingredients to build a tent (bones for the frame and pelts as a cover). However, should the autumn arrive and a family's tent ruined, the family which has more space in their tent will host that family. The hosted family will be given priority over the hunted animals' pelts and bones.

History

Northern vanaras have lived their nomadic lives at most periods throughout history. The only exception is the time between the second and the Third Northern War. During this period, vanaras inhabited the dwarven caves excavated in the mountains that separate Friac’seoue and Tiel.   While most vanaras living in the tundra are content on doing so, other vanaras idealize the time spent at the dwarven caves and would like to go back. The dwarven caves provide warmth and comfort that no tent is able to provide.

oooh i like the helping hand aspect toward families.   I assume they salvage whale oil too for their lantern and heating devices ? they were quite popular for that back in the days !   Happy Summercamp !

Indeed! Everything is used, pelt, blubber, meat... when you live out in the wilderness in harsh conditions, you can't afford to not use what you can get.
