Use the Prose template to write short stories, scenes or chapters for a story, poems, or any other narrative text!
Contents
What should I use this template for?
The Prose template is used to write short stories, poems, flash fiction, and even scenes from your RPG sessions you want to immortalize as a story! For example, you could use it to write a story set in your world, but you could also write the in-world creation myth (which would be a text that your characters might know of). With this second example, there's some overlap with the Myth template; but while the Myth template is about a myth or legend, the Prose template would contain the story of the myth itself without worldbuilding context around it.
If you're looking to write a long-form story, such as a novel, try using Manuscripts, our novel-writing software. Check the guide to Manuscripts for more information!
Reading features
When viewing the Prose template, you have some tools available to make reading more comfortable. In the top right area of any Prose article (in view mode), you'll see a set of buttons to switch between dark and light mode, as well as to increase or decrease the font size.
Template walkthrough
The Prose template only has two fields:
- Prose: Use this field to write the contents of the story itself.
- Commentary: If you want to write anything about the story, such as what inspired it or a brief explanation of worldbuilding context, you can do so here. If you have other articles that reference this text, you could link to them from here.
Feature recommendations for prose
Here are some ideas on how you can use other features in combination with prose!
- Manuscripts: If you want to write longer texts (such as a novel or novella), our novel writing software will be better suited to your needs. Check the guide to Manuscripts!
- Plot: If you need to plan what happens in a story or scene, use a Plot article. Check the guide to the Plot template for details.
- Whiteboards: If you're a visual planner, Whiteboards are an infinite canvas where you can draw and plan anything! Check the guide to Whiteboards!
- Tags: Using the tagging system, you can automatically generate lists of related articles. This is especially useful for Prose articles to create collections of scenes, chapters, and more. Check how to created tagged lists.
