The Hag, The Giant, and the Cauldron (and a pixie too)

by Myalee Amastacia

Eliodiel was pulled away today by Genny. I was fine with this, I'm glad she is at least not locked in her room.

We started the day heading to Voran's house, unintentionally interrupting their breakfast. I wanted to make sure that he knew to be on the look out for the file on the murder here in Easthaven. I also let him know of Guard Kerrigan who now is working for Vesstan back home, and that perhaps he would be willing to testify about the similar murder in Targos.

From there we set off once more to search for the missing fishermen. We came across some caves and in the first one we entered, we met Maude Chiselbone. Turns out she is the one responsible for the missing travelers and fishermen, she has been eating them. She tried to make a deal with the town. Instead of them sacrificing to Auril, she wanted the town to give her the sacrificial person, she apparently has an appetite for humans. In return, she would help to feed around 360 people a day. We left her be for the time, to come up with a plan on putting a stop to her. We investigated the other caves. We had to fend off a lone wolf in one. Several of the walls through out the caves depicted frost giants going into a hot spring to drown themselves. Strange. We also found the remains of a campsite that contained some papers on this and gathered those to take back with us. We eventually went back to Maude, intent to put an end to her ways. Turns out she is a hag. We managed to kill her, but several of us were knocked unconscious at times. Thanks to Lady Evelyn for bringing us back up. We had to also flee from a giant skeleton and a pixie, but managed to escape, but barely. I dare say, I wouldn't have survived much longer. We sure missed having Eliodiel with us.

We brought the cauldron back with us to the Speaker. Rhodri, identifying it before we met with them. The speaker advised as long as their town wizard agreed with the findings, they were willing to pay us 5 gemstones, worth 500 each. This will be a great aid to the town, as they are suffering with the frozen lakes and not being able to fish. I made the speaker promise to help those who need it most first. Rhodri also gave them some keys we had found that belonged to the missing fishermen, so now their families can mourn them properly and give them a proper memorial.

I had to let the speaker know we destroyed the large chardlyn statue they pulled from the lake. Thankfully he was not upset, he admitted it disturbed him when he looked at it. Unfortunately, they get the responsibility to dispose of the pieces.

For our efforts, he gave us a magical bag that produces furry creatures, I am sure Eliodiel will love it!

Rhodri also finally identified the items we found in the cart on the way to Easthaven. A magical bag of holding I believe he said it was, he will be keeping that. There was a necklace of powerful prayer beads, which they have given to me, I will make sure to put this to good use. He also identified the dagger I found. It is quite beautiful. Made of ivory with three gemstones, an emerald, a blue sapphire, and a amethyst, and is slightly longer than your average dagger. He said it is rather powerful (+4) but that there was something more to it he was not able to discern. I will have to be careful if ever I use it. For now, it is kept safely in my bag.

We will head back to the town hall tomorrow to collect our payment and the file on the murder to take back home. For now, I need to sleep, I ache in places I forgot could ache.
