Angry Specters and Fleeing Targos

by Myalee Amastacia

Eliodiel was feeling somewhat better and willing to join us for the days adventures. We caught her up on what happened yesterday, which was overheard by one of the magic club members, the red head, I believe her name is Nina. Verrick and Evelyn pursued her. From what they said, she confirmed she was the one casting a spell, I think they said it was gentle repose, on the wings. She supposedly is willing to steal the wings if we only tell her where to take them. I don't know if we can trust her, and we ultimately decided against this. Instead we looked for Guard Kerrigan, and found him just in time, as he preparing to leave. He gave us directions as to where we could find Skath's hidden lab.

It took some time, but Eliodiel was finally able to get the stable unlocked and Rohdri eventually found our way down. There was a group of mercenaries. Unfortunately, either Evelyn or Rhodri tripped coming down the steps and fell into the other causing the mercenaries to spot them. Thankfully as they were at the back, the rest of us were already out of sight. Those two somehow managed to bluff their way out of a sticky situation, and one of the men came to escort them out. I was able to quickly grab him, keeping a hand over his mouth and with the help of the others, knocked him out without his buddies noticing, however, he did get a good look at me. That may come back to haunt me later.

We slipped past the doorway down the side hallway and we found a room with a masked prisoner locked up, a sign stating to not take the mask off. Before we could free them we heard someone coming and were able to slip into a secret passage. Unluckily however, we found an angry specter waiting for us. We followed it to a room that was of questionable worship, something striking me as familiar. We defeated the specters but Verrick managed to release a horde of zombies, so we fled back the way came. Luckily, the person who came to check on the prisoner was gone. Looking back on what I saw in those two side rooms, I remember now why the shrine was familiar. It is devoted to Errtu, a Balor with historical interest. I doubt Captain Skath is aware of this hidden shrine. And based on the fact that this room was wrecked, I doubt there is any love for Errtu or demonic powers in general in Targos.

I entered the room with the prisoner who, even though masked, resembled a striking resemblance to Lady Evelyn. After attempting to confirm they were the missing celestial, and making sure Evelyn was ok with it, I did remove the mask. I felt weird for just a moment, but shook it off. This person looked exactly like Evelyn, but then, almost immediately, and screaming in agony turned into Melliesande, Eliodiels friend. Verrick immediately tried releasing them. Afraid he would do hurt them more in his panic to release them, I tried to talk some sense into, that this really wasn't her. But no luck, I was however, able to get him to back away and allow me to release her. Before I could finish however, Eliodiel entered the room and this person transformed once more, into a wood elf, someone none of recognized, except Eliodiel, who reacted in a similar manner to Verrick. I felt terrible, but I had no choice but to put the mask back on, at least for now.

We managed to exit the stable undetected and upon walking outside, it was quiet, eerily quiet. That was when we realized all of the mercenary guards were missing, even the one we knocked out. We quickly discussed whether to confront the Speaker here, or just flee. Ultimately, our safest option was to flee via the frozen waters.

From there we safely made it home to Bryn Shandor. Grigor took Rafil, or maybe this is actually Gwyneth, home to watch over. I gave him strict orders to not remove their mask. From there we spoke with Speaker Shane. I explained all that had happened in Tragos. Lady Evelyn, revealed that Skath wanted to her to pass a letter asking the Speaker to join in with the potion sales. Speaker Shane has refused now that she knows what we found out. But that is all she is able to do at this time, her hands are tied. Which is what I feared, but this was information she needed to be aware of.

We left to head to Grigor's home, where Evelyn is staying. I needed to speak with her as well as check on the our new friend. When we arrived, I don't think any of us were prepared for what we walked in on. A perfect copy of Evelyn, sitting on Grigors lap. He didn't listen. I'll have to speak with him about that later, or perhaps Evelyn can. They then came to me and clung to me, and I couldn't help it, my motherly instincts came out and just held them until Lady Evelyn took over. We need to figure out who this person is, and if we can help them. We also need to figure out where we are heading next.
