session 6

by Thorgrott Ironhide

After some regrouping a sort of informal court session has formed, led by Narzire Uccoth

Narzire asked us to introduce ourselves

Ivory order codex is against the use of magic, keep that in mind

Apparently folium is originally Tlacopani, which is an interesting revelation

we've made an agreement with Timothy Bluebelly that we let him go free, if he just puts in a good word for us at the bowlscrapers

We take a long rest and during that i try to cook some more food using my cook's utensils, but fail and all i manage to do is add some spice to our food, but i add a little too much for the other's tastes, so it adds nothing of value to the meal

Juniper reads a book on her family's history during our rest

We leave coin square at the crack of dawn and enter the groves, still dark due to the foliage and filled with magical energy

The forest is unfamiliar to Ludwig and Folium, who originate in this part of the city, so they feel uneasy

Folium cannot see in the dark, so she lights a small flame, in that moment she gets engulfed in a swarm of fireflies and then she vanishes

We find her again a few moments later, in a daze and nonverbal, i try to convince her to talk, but fail

Then RuHa gets one word out of her: “Ants”

We walk a bit further, narrowly avoiding some whispering thorns in the process

We stumble upon a large treetrunk that blocks the way, someone notes that it has been here since before the forest came back to life as it were, so we turn back

We go down another path and the surroundings darken even more, i notice some water dripping into a pool nearby in a hypnotic rythm, i start nodding along to the rythm, then promptly fall asleep

I get woken up again, and immediately get told to not touch any plants here, so still a bit groggy i follow the rest as we continue to walk

We come upon a magically glowing tree, and i hear voices that sound vaguely familiar, and then the handle of my hammer starts to form cracks

I show the hammer and its cracks to the group, juniper notes that she sees the magical power seeping out of the hammer, and in the meantime magical claws are trying to rip the handle apart, releasing the power inside

I remember that the warforged in coin square gave me an instruction list to repair the hammer, and that mentioned something about the handle needing some magical materials to mend it, preferably some type of wood

Ludwig explains that these trees, known as Oathwood Trees, were often used by the druids to give certain ceremonies or oaths more power, sometimes by way of a challenge that the participants need to beat, but I dont quite grasp all that he says as I'm more focused on my hammer than his explanation.

We walk closer to the Oathwood Tree and in that moment my hammer gets shattered and pulled into the tree by its roots, and all my partymembers are constrained by the roots as well

The roots take the shape of my ancestors and challenge me to take up the mantle of wielder of the hammer, and in that moment some giant firebugs appear from the woods and attack me

After an exhausting battle where i call upon the forces of my family and similar magic, even using my first ever action surge to survive this encounter, because i notice these creatures, while weak and fragile, do pack quite a punch and manage to set me on fire.

After this fight Yrmidon reappears from the roots of the tree, newly repaired handle and all, as well as the rest of the party, who help me put out the fire

I am now pretty beat up, and very grateful for this new hammer

Juniper is sick of this forest and puts on a performance to express that

This beautiful performance pushes the magical power of the forest a little further away, in the hope that it wont bother us anymore
