The Sorcerer's Log: A Few Interesting Months

by Telvar Almaron

Goodness! It's been a while since I've written in this journal... the days have been flying by quickly, but so many things have been going on! Because I don't know where to start, I'll just be writing about the occurrences that have been happening to myself and others in Havenport.

Perhaps the first thing worth mentioning is that about a month ago, I finally confessed my feelings to Kuon. I'm just so glad that she reciprocated them... we shared quite a tender moment together as we watched the night sky by the docks. The stars were really pretty, and the setting was perfect. Ever since, I've felt much happier every single day. I think Emerald told me beforehand that I was "but a gloomy soul, but now I have a girlfriend". I suppose she's correct now; everyone's been pretty happy about our union for the most part.

I also found that I could finally suppress the terrors in my sleep, and exert my willpower to hold them in place. Although I can do it any night, it's just way easier within the same room as Kuon. Aside from that, the most noteworthy occurrence is that the hounds which torn me limb from limb for years were the most submissive to my control. After a bit of assertion and exerting willpower, they finally listened to my commands to sit and stay. Perhaps in the future, they will be a terror turned int o a dream? I don't know, for only time could tell...

Speaking of the terrors, I've also found the ability to control the flow of adrenaline and melatonin through the body of myself and others. Raquanda calls these spells "Haste" and "Slow". But what the former does is speed up peoples' reactions and makes them move doubly fast, while the latter exhausts enemies with a wave of drowsiness. Both should be quite useful for combat applications. There is also this one terror I had which I was plunged deep beneath the sea, in the abyssal zone which no light came from the sun. I did see this bright yellow light which reminded me of Kuon's golden irises, so I swam towards it as well as figuring out I had webbed hands and feet, with gills on my arms and legs. But when I came close enough to the light, what Hugh called an "angler fish" tried to snap at me with its giant jaws! My willpower was more difficult to channel through the deep waters, and I could only slow down the giant underwater beast as I swam away as fast as I could. Waking up from that terror, I learned what Pandoura calls the "Alter Self" spell. However, it came at the cost of forgetting the spells of: 1) putting others to sleep, 2) putting magic on the tongue to persuade others, and 3) projecting phantasms into others' minds.

There was also the spar with Vyth. The day before (I think), he told me that he wouldn't be going easy on me, and that I should give the battle my all. That's exactly what I did. I think what happened is that after boosting myself with the Adrenaline Rush, I tried to sever the connection between his body and soul with a holding spell. After a couple of failed attempts and bearing the sound of those miserable bells, I managed to hold him in place and land a few feathers of the Frost Phoenix. In desperation, I closed the distance and tried stabbing him with my knife, but it did not connect. Vyth finally snapped out of paralysis as I was in melee range, trying to land an anti-heal and a bite on me. Thanks to the Adrenaline Rush, I was able to react quick enough to dodge them and retaliate with my own attacks which brought him down in melee range. He was a terrifying combatant, being able to deal damage to both the body and the soul.

One other thing to mention is that I convinced the captain of a ship to let myself, Cliff, Hugh, Emerald, and Hal borrow his boat for free -- all without putting magic on my tongue! I did feel a bit of inspiration from Mat and Hugh, as I was striking these poses of incredible charisma which seemed to exude confidence. Raquanda said the captain was not the brightest, letting us use his expensive boat without charge. But I'm not complaining; if it means Cliff's anti-magic seal will be broken, I'll go to the extremes to help him out.
