A Radiant Dawn

by Telvar Almaron

I didn't remember going to bed nor getting to sleep last night, but I experienced something extraordinary. Normally, I'd be facing the terrors I have encountered every night. It's usually s a massive python squeezing every last breath out of me, a pair of hounds tearing me limb from limb, or a swarm of rats working their way to my innermost organs; although there are more variations that are less common. This wasn't the case at all this time around.

What I saw instead was a vast, grassy field. As instinct, I looked for the nightly terror that would bring my unreal death. But there was nothing there to perpetuate the cycle I had gotten used to for all my life. I sat down in the grass, curious as to whether I was in reality or not. I sure wasn't in Havenport; I couldn't see the seas everywhere I looked. Eventually, I watched the sun rise above the horizon ever so slowly. It was incredibly beautiful, perhaps even rivaling Kuon's golden irises. Tears kept falling from my eyes after I realized it was indeed a dream, without the terrors that haunted me on a regular basis. It was simple and pleasant, just as most people described how sleeping is supposed to be.

My teacher Emerald told me that if I wanted to experience more beautiful dreams like this, I would have to keep on adventuring to harness my powers. After all, if I retired from adventure and lived a mundane commoner's life, who knows how many years it will be until I experience another radiant dawn just like this one?
