The Floating Islands

by Telvar Almaron

It was just a normal day for myself at the Sandbar, waking up and heading upstairs from my room. I felt unusually drowsy, asking Steve if there was something he could serve me to wake me up. Then I fell asleep on the table after that; and after waking up, I found myself in an unfamiliar environment. There was a few floating islands, each curious in their own way. Around me, also not knowing how they got there, were the following adventurers: Kuon, Emerald, Hal, Graves, Lancelot, and Raquanda. There was also this giant tree on our waking island, too. But, out of the blue, came a menacing Air Elemental! It was quite difficult to hit, being airy and all. The others seemed to handle it well, but I could barely do anything against it.

* Telvar's handwriting seems to be a bit more sloppy, and a few spots on the page appear as if tears dropped. *

Then after that, was this other Elemental that we couldn't see at all. Hugh called it an "Invisible Stalker". Thankfully, because Lancelot's horse was there to kick up dust, we could make out its shape and attack it. But despite that, it grievously wounded Emerald, then did the same to Kuon. I don't know what I'd do if I lost them. They did stabilize, but I was panicked to know their lives were at stake. I did tell her to know her limits; but the thing kept on focusing her down. My powers didn't really contribute much to that battle.

* His handwriting appears more composed in the rest of the entry. *

Once those two were gone, we were doing some rope climbing. Emerald and I barely made it to the cliff, latching on before we plummeted. The party was able to save us, but I wish I could say the same for Lancelot's steed.

After that, there was some sort of Earth Elemental. It would roll into a ball and try to ram us. I did manage to make it believe it was being corroded by acid, but it just didn't care and its psyche was as good as before. Fortunately, with some quick thinking, Hal was able to deal a thunderous smite upon it, making it fall past the ledge into the sea below. Once again, my contributions were lacking. Goodness, it's difficult being a "mind mage", having to know the inherent fears of pretty much everything.

The last encounter we had was a Salamander and a Fire Elemental. Unlike the other two, their weakness seemed quite obvious; I managed to wrap their minds with phantasms which made them think they were drowning in a heavy storm of water. It did seem to psychologically break them; their looks of agony were something to behold. Hal almost died, and it was once again quite a fright. Forunately, the Fire Elemental was extinguished, then the Salamander fell shortly after.

We managed to find a boat and sail back to Havenport, miraculously. The trip took quite a while, but it was good to be back.

* Below are some notes Telvar has taken about the other adventurers. *

Kuon: Skilled, agile combatant proficient in both rapier and longbow. Can do extra damage onto weak points; Hold Person is a great synergy with her.
Emerald: Bladesinger that augments melee combat with Shield and other spells. Using the Frostbite cantrip on her foes reduces their likeliness to hit her.
Hal: Front-line paladin that can also utilize Eldritch Blast and quickly heal comrades. Once again, using Frostbite on his foes would keep him in the fight longer.
Graves: Front-line cleric with a myriad of cantrips and spells. Possible synergy with Phantasmal Force and those miserable-sounding bells.
Lancelot: Mobile jouster that boasts speed, defense, and power. Hold Person would be a good synergy, to keep things still for him to impale.
Raquanda: Same case as Emerald.
