This large piece of thick parchment is of exceptional quality. The paper feels somewhat elastic, which helps resist tearing, and feels as if coated, which helps resist aging and damage from mold and humidity. In fact, what remains after brushing off the mold and dirt is a piece of parchment in mint condition, even smelling as if it was made only yesterday.
One side of the parchment features a sketch, a quick drawing showing the outlines of six tall and slender figures. With each passing minute of concentration on the picture additional details emerge slowly. It’s almost as if the picture is painting itself as it turns from sketch to drawing to painting. After studying the picture for several minutes it shows the dining room you are in, but in whatever state it was in long ago. A large chandelier hangs down from a high ceiling, fine tapestries cover old oak floorboards, many magnificent paintings and grand hunting trophies line the walls, a long dining table stands near the tall windows at the front of the dining room softly illuminated by the evening light. The scenery is opulent, almost regal, as is the attire of the six tall figures standing behind the dining table.
Embossed writing now decorates the bottom of the painting. Roughly translated from Elven it seems a title and reads:
“881 DR - Aelorothi of Velti Enorethal and Morningstar of Ascalhorn at the celebration of Arselu'Tel'Quess”.
The other side of the parchment features a small scribbled piece of text. Similar to the sketch it turns from a small scribble to a bit of writing to illustrations and beautifully decorated text. Roughly translated from Elven it seems someone’s recollection of the dinner festivities and reads:
“Today we welcome Alabyran Morningstar, summa cum laude graduate at our respected Velti Enorethal and soon first headmaster of a fine wizard school of his own making dedicated to our ancient ways of Arselu'Tel'Quess. He has accumulated a wealth of knowledge of the Elven and the Netherese Arts alike and tonight we join him as he will bring it all together in a spectacular demonstration in our grand tower laboratory. We regret tragic recent events mean his wife Gweyr and son Akash will not be unable to join us, his audience tonight will be myself and my wife, Lord and Lady Aelorothi, the headmaster of Velti Enorethal and his venerable predecessor, and our beloved daughter Ixiki Aelorothi.”.
