On our return from the Trial, we were met with Creeps with multiple pieces of news for us. We were informed of the difficulties in Higara, including the loss of control of the southern region. As a result, there is a refugee crisis, as well, with High Mage Elowen fighting to protect the fleeing citizens from the arms of the Black Rift Army.
We also heard of other occurrences in the Commonwealth – a mage tower of some sort overtaken by the sorcerer Raxis. There was some device called the Severing Construct involved, which somehow threatened to drain the magic from the world.
In other regions. There was a prophecy of a falling artifact called the Sovereign Glaive. A race between opposing forces seeks to gain position in claiming this weapon from the heavens. The Aster Kingdom in Vasloria seems to be the focus of the forces at the moment.
There were rumors about a few of things happening in Khemara – possibly the next target for Wagner’s campaign. Additionally, we were told of a land of forbidden magic in the area, claimed by an evil emperor. A tomb of note also exists in Khemara, although it’s importance was not clear to me.
We were also given an update on access to the Ringwell. Apparently, there is only one more puzzle box, in the hands of House Rhau. The other part of the access puzzle, however, is some sort of “key” that was last possessed by House Khatru. This, however, is not a physical key, and it’s whereabouts are not currently known, according to Creeps’s sources.
After discussion about possible actions in response to all of this information, we resolved to have the senior officers travel to Higara, which seemed to be the most pressing of situations. We would have further forces follow us to support the refugees after the conflict is stabilized. We also resolved to send forces to follow a couple other leads, so we would not fall behind with everything as we attempted to affect the situation in Higara.
I am still unsure of our new role, acting without clear contract or employer in this matter, but we press on.
After contacting the High Mage Elowen, we arranged for teleportation transport for our small group to help with the flight of the refugees from the Black Rift Army. On arrival, we stated to usher the refugees towards and into a keep. While Elown held the gates open with magic, we battled scouting forces of archers and shadow hounds, trying to give the refugees time to enter the protective walls. As we held off the last of the scouting forces, and the refugees finished filing into the castle walls, we could see the vanguard of the army approaching, about 3 hours away.
