Momentary Reflection.

by Tear Razier

As I sit here reflecting and scribbling my thoughts down I think to myself how the situation before us unfolded. I was reluctant to be here, in Quickwater. A small town with no library or honestly anything of real noteworthiness, save for a few people who seemed a little too helpful for their own good. Of course Eversong latched onto that, my cynicism probably a bit much. Saving a town from a goblin attack, becoming a guard, and investigating a crime....that seems a fairly reasonable succession of events. However, when the aforementioned individuals caught wind of the election upcoming and the thoughts at how much better the citizens' lives here could be, we stuck ourselves in places—in my mind at least—we did not belong.

This is where everything started to take a turn, and not in a direction I generally favored. As the events of this started to reveal themselves slowly, albeit some a little more forced from August infiltrating the house of the Brews, we learned a bit more about what was happening to not only this town but to the Brews themselves. Even further we delved, every step of the way taking our debate about what the next steps would be. Unfortunately it was never discussed if we should even be doing any of it or if we should back out while we’re “ahead”.

Sarah Brew, a creature of great misfortune but sometimes life is not kind. In her desperation asking for help forging a pact with a demon who ferries souls to the Hells and the Abyss. Nothing like I’ve faced before, but among these individuals, many thought we could succeed with nothing given. I’ve never believed such a thing possible as I’ve learned throughout my life where something is given, something must be taken. Such is the balance of the world. Deliberation, debate, discussion...more and more for something we forced our way into, forcing not only our hands but those around us. Part of me is glad we’re leaving. I cannot think of staying with a group who wants to constantly take action but is plagued by inaction.

Eversong and I have much to discuss, but before that I need to comfort her. I know she must be struggling; I only wish I knew how to help more. Learning and moving forward, that is what I need to do now.
