“I brought you a snack, Tear.”
“Thank you.”
“You know, we should go out sometime. See the sights, maybe you can make a friend or two?”
“Why?”
“What do you mean why?” I poked his side, trying to make him drop his damn book.
“I don’t understand the point. I’m supposed to be learning.”
I sighed heavily. “You dummy, you are learning. You know you don’t have to always be so studious. The outside world has a lot to teach. You just have to be open to it.”
“I’ve been treated well here. I can’t neglect my studies.”
I know he means well but he just can’t be beholden to this his entire life.
“I know and you’ll continue to be treated well. It’ll be a field trip just you and I.”
I need him to understand many things about this world. Disparity, injustice, and more. Sheltered here he’ll never learn it.
“Come on…” I held my hand out and smiled warmly towards him.
For once...he put the book down.
“Okay.”
