We got up early and met Sgt. Bolo, the Dwarf giving us our orders. He sent us on a patrol around the district to learn the area. He said we had 2 things to watch out for. A dispute between 2 rival shopkeepers and a domestic dispute in a wizards workshop. We chose to head towards the dispute between the shopkeepers 1st. As we approached the area a clay pot sailed across the road, slamming into the other side and spraying fire across the impact area. The 2 shops involved were Elmo's Pickle Hut & Everything Fried. Elisan was able to get the 2 Goblin shop keepers to calmed down enough to stop throwing fire. Kasper put out the fire before it blew up some oil barrels and then the group managed to convince the Goblins to work together. The Goblins tried to bribe us, but we gave the money back & then fined them a much smaller amount instead.
As we continued toward the next known problem we suddenly saw a woman running away with a dagger and a belt pouch. A red-faced man cried after her "Stop Thief"! We managed to catch her with little effort. We returned the red-faced man's pouch. Searching her we found several more pouches. We put them into evidence. If noone claimed them by description for 7 days we would confiscate the coins they held for our group. We turned her over to some other guards and continued on our patrol. As we passed an alley we heard screams. Looking that way, we saw a group of skeletons climbing out of an excavation. As the regular citizens ran, we readied our weapons... The Skeletons approached and we made quick work of them. Investigating the excavation we found that these had been guards of this area that had been buried in the earthquakes that decimated this area decades ago. We felt that this was a limited area. We moved on.
Towards the end of the route we heard shouts and breaking glassware coming from what was obviously the Wizard's hut. A woman standing outside told us a child had broken into her shop and is breaking things inside. He says she had something to do with his master. Through a window we could see that the door had been barricaded from the inside. A teenage boy inside yelled us to stay back, he "would find proof"! He said his master Keminels was missing. The wizard here and Keminels were rivals at the Arcanarium. He said he had taken the workshop hostage and he would find evidence! While Kasper kept him talking, Calum snuck along the side of the house to see if he could gain access through a window. Eventually we managed to talk him out of the house. We took him with us to the guard barracks to give a missing person's report.
When we arrived back, Sgt. Olo met us at the door and told us that beasts had escaped from a menagerie and were running rampant, terrorizing both the menagerie and the surrounding businesses. We headed there without event. When we got close we started hearing screams. Soon we saw a Cockatrice heading our way. We defeated it, but not before it had slowed Jensen and Elisan. Next, we heard around the corner growls and more screams. This turned out to be an Owlbear. It mauled Elisan and Jensen, along with Felix, before we managed to defeat it. We took some time to rest and recuperate before heading around the corner to less screams and more cursing from the blacksmith's shop. Here we found a Rust monster. It immediately turned and went after Elisan. Again, we managed to defeat it. We noticed at this point that we could not hear any more screams. We headed for the entrance, where people were starting to poke their heads back out to see if it was safe.
