The next day we decided to look for "safer" clues while waiting for evening. We headed for Chadraxa's Cheap Loans in the Coins district. The shop seemed very out of place. It was a rundown shack, seemingly held in place by the buildings on either side of it. When we knocked the door was unlocked and we were met by a female Hobgoblin. She introduced herself as Chadraxa. Kasper cut right to the heart of her request, which was having her record cleared & her license restored. She told us she had information regarding an upcoming bank heist. After a conversation she revealed "a snippet" of information about a possible bank heist. She suggested we speak to Ziraya in the Puddles about Percen Droan. Apparently Percen had a very interesting globe on his desk that we should look into. We thanked her for the information and left, saying we would look into what we could do about the investigation of her running an illegal business without a permit. We decided we would look for this globe when we raided the smuggler's den in the evening.
We then turned toward the Penny & Sphinx trust to see what we could learn there. We were met by a Garundi man, who introduced himself as Ugqu. He went to get Bertram Saltwhistle, the manager. He was a 50ish, well dressed Halfling man. He explained that a few days ago that a group of thieves had broken into the building. When they broke in the alarm was quickly set off. Most of them got away, except Quidly, a Goblin. He had been handed over to the Token Guard. Bertram took us to see the entrance where the thieves had gained entry. Inspecting it, Jensen was able to tell that the door showed no signs of tampering or forced entry. He also noticed a collapsible ladder in the bushes outside the door. We quickly began to suspect that this seemed like an inside job. There were only 2 keys, one with Bertram & one with an employee named Kolo, his Stepson. More questions revealed that Bertram and Kolo had been alone in the building, just after shift change. They caught the group as they entered the main lobby, running several humans off, but catching the Goblin. We decided to go speak to the captured Goblin. When we arrived at the Token Guard we found that Quidly was no longer in custody. While this incensed several members of our group, we left with no further information. We then headed for Kolo's home to look for him. There was no answer to our knock. While Kasper watched the door, Elisan and Calum started knocking on neighbour's doors while Jensen went to locate the manager of the complex to gain entry to Kolo's apartment. Gaining entry from the landlord we found no sign of foul play, but no sign of Kolo either.
We chose to leave this problem for now to go investigate the problems at the Orvington Moneychangers. As we approached the building we noticed several large Mastiffs out front. They were growling and a man came running from out of the building. When he saw us he exclaimed about the problems with Token Guards & said something about beehives being tossed onto his roof... as several swarms came flying over the building towards us! We engaged the swarms while the citizen ran inside and closed the doors behind him. Once we defeated them he returned outside to speak to us. He introduced himself as Uther Orvington, the owner. He explained he had been attacked in many ways, from these wasp swarms to flaming bottles to graffiti. Quite pompous, he exclaimed how noone of high character would do such a thing. He could not recall angering anyone recently that might cause such behavior. He took us inside to speak to his tellers to see if they recalled anyone like this. They could not. They told us, when asked, that their main competitors were Phoenix & Trust. Though, they told us, those folks were not nearly as well established as the Orvington Moneylenders! We inspected the graffiti, finding that it took the form of certain parts of the male anatomy. We told him we could not offer a solution right now, but that we would investigate further. He offered us 50gp in thanks and told us he would "pentuple" it if we found out who was causing these problems for his business. We left & once we were away we discussed how Chadraxa may be involved or, at least, have some information about the culprit(s).
We then spent some time resting before we headed back to the Puddles to assist Ziraya. We made our way there. Ziraya suggested we take the lead while she and some fellows of hers hung back to help with cleanup, as necessary. Jensen led the group stealthily to one side of the building. Unfortunately, that door turned out to have something stacked against it that fell and clattered as we attempted to open it stealthily. Voices were heard from inside and then, eventually, coming around from the front of the building. We chose to climb the wall at the back of the compound. We managed to scramble over the wall before we were seen by the group approaching from the front. However, the 2 on the docks at the back were looking right at us... They pulled bows and started fighting us, after Kasper tried to Command one to take a swim. Shortly after the fight was joined some sort of shark creature leapt out of the water and started attacking one of them. We went to their aid. It seemed they would work with us briefly, before one of them turned on Kasper, shooting him. We quickly defeated the shark creature before turning our efforts to the archers. We managed to make them flee, but not before they beat us up pretty badly & were calling out to the people coming from the front about guards being back there. After they ran away, Jensen was able to deceive the people from the front into believing we were the archers and had run the guards off. This gave us a brief respite to heal up before another rogue came through the doors nearby. He was surprised to see us & got stabbed for his trouble. He called out alerting the other nearby guards inside. Before this fight was over we had been accosted by 2 Rogues, a Bugbear & a fancy lad Human. This fight was tougher, but we managed to win in the end. We paused to take stock & decide if we should proceed...
