Mister Dewey calls is together. A family friend's daughter has gone missing - Jane Strong. Her father is Mister Lucas Strong. They have organized a group to investigate - located in Bennington Vermont. We are invited to help support finding Jane. Offers $25/day. Jane is 16 years old. There is a ransom! Mr Strong was going to pay the ransom, but something went wrong.
We make it to Bennington. People are all talking. The locals say that three gangsters were killed. Police officers were shot. Everyone is invited to a meeting at the police station. Mr Strong is willing to shell out $5,000. Briefing at the police station.
We get some food. The hostess recommends the Indian Burial Grounds. We are going to meet her tomorrow at noon. We're going to eat at the Blue Oyster. Sue Jorgensen. That is her name. We get some general info about the kidnapping/abduction.
An old guy comes to our table. He mentioned that he heard we were going to the Indian Burial Grounds. He says there are ghosts out in the woods. Civil War deserters. I checked some info about ghosts, this guy claims ghosts can go wherever they want, but I believe that to be sus information. An old lady comes over and grabs "George".
Next day, breakfast. We go to the police station briefing. Sheriff Jenkins is in charge. Lots of people are interested. What we know. Sidney Harris and his gang have kidnapped Jane Strong. A ransom was asked for and a handoff was arranged. Harris and his men got twitchy and both sides shot out. The men got away with ransom money. They are believed to be in the forest. Lucas Strong, is offering $25/day and $5,000 for finding. He would consider it a real kindness if Harris' dead body was brought back. Posters in town. They are in Nottingham forest - north of town. It is the forest with the Indian burial ground. The police are rude to women. Jane went missing from home.

I try to get the skinny on the booze in town but to no avail. We find Sue and get her to meet us earlier to go to the forest. We meet her at 11. We have to go through where the shoot out was. She leads us to the shoot out site - newly cut clearing - 100 yards across on the edge of the woods. Logging the area. Dirt track from the main road. Discarded shotgun shells. It's really quiet. She hasn't been to this location before. She thinks it isn't safe to enter. She gives us rough directions. We have an hour head start on the group. She leaves us.
Brad, the new guy, sneaks ahead. He hears breaking twigs out in front of him. He tells us of some twigs making noise up ahead. We kind of stealth and hide from where the noise was. Some of us were noisier than others. We hear some gunshots. A bullet zips by Henry's head. The shots came from a man and a boy both carrying rifles and packs. The boy is shooting toward us. They walk forward slowly. Does not seem like robbers. We direct them to maybe hunt a different place. They are out there with neighbors. Hear an occasional rumble of noise -truck. There is a dig site up north. Have not seen an Indian burial ground. Their friend is a big ole Texan. Their names are Alistair and George. They note that west of the woods are some students from the university of Boston. Painting.
