Downtime to Catch Up

by Conrad Brauer

Honestly, there hadn't been much to write about once we had finished our last job, so you'll have to forgive me for not wanting to fill this journal with entries of "Got up, ate, then went to work making potions for the company's stock". It was like this for a few weeks before Kasvaar had come to our group in the tavern with a vague delivery job (which Cybil will not be with us for a majority of the time, as she was sent to scout ahead. Thank the patrons.) and a new member--- Cade. A new member who looked to be rather young, but since he was a hafling I thought he was just young looking as most of his kind were. He sure had an interesting thing with him, some sort of metal dog thing called Dog.

BUT enough of my ramblings on that, since Kasvaar had told us to find Urtho and take advantage of his skills. I would have, if it weren't so expensive. Ashe and Yitoshk were the only ones to take up the offer, I'm not sure if Kevin even could and Cade was too busy exploring like a child let loose. It was once we turned in for the night at On the Road that something rather concerning happened. If it was just the fact that somehow Yitoshk had somehow acquired ale that was imbued with Cleansing Root, that would have just meant that we would have been just woken up by his nightmares. That would have been annoying, but fine. No, what had happened was an attack by some goddamn Nisiar cult that follows Rhaes. Shit. Then it turns out that the delivery was actually an escort job to bring a Laeloni noble to his fiance because apparently the King now wants some sort of peace between Mages and the laeloni people. I mean that's great and all, but fuck with the still ongoing witch hunts there was no way that this is going to be a simple thing to do. And look I know Cybil is some sort of hero to the laeloni people, but I fucking hate the fact that Fletcher (the kid we're escorting) gushes on and on about here when she gets the chance and Ashe can shapeshift to LOOK like her and made the hero worship even worse.

THANKS KASVAAR, I HATE IT.

We didn't even make it very far into our journey when we came across a pair of goblins arguing over a pair of wagons and money. Oh yeah they also had a woman tied up too. A very angry woman. Yitoshk tried to reason with them (and failed and ended up pissing off the tied up woman after freeing her) , but Ashe sensed that this whole set up was an ambush, and shot at one of the goblins. What do you know, she was right. I didn't join in on the action much, as SOMEONE had to make sure that Fletcher was protected. I was right to do so since one of the goblins decided to shoot at the kid. After a scuffle the battle was done, the goblins mostly dead (mostly because Cade ran around trying to stabilize them), and the woman calmed, she informed us that she and her party were escorting Fletcher's soon to be bride and said that we might want to take the mines to avoid any possible run in with people who are out to kill Fletcher. I don't get why we didn't just travel with her since we were going to the same place, but it's not like most of us thought about it until after our.... fun in the mines.

So like, on our way to the mines we had almost run into a group of soldiers waiting to ambush us. How did we know? Well, we heard the clanking of armor and because of the fact that we know we're already being hunted by a Rhaes Cult, Ashe and I scouted ahead to check if the road was safe. It wasn't since a bunch of soldiers were talking about how the laeloni nobles didn't want to give up their precious mage hating. Fucking Laelon. Anyways ,that little nugget of information cemented the idea of going through the mines, AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW THE FUCKING CULTISTS WERE WAITING FOR US. With hellhounds and a chain devil. God so many of us came close to dying.

At least we made it to Urdibury for a rest and restock. Thank the Mother that their might be an Alchemist or an Apothecary of some kind there to buy ingredients from to keep us all alive. Though the Father is fair, I can't say that I'm in a rush to meet him with two kids in our care for the moment.
