Personal history
Most of this story is unknown to other party members. Eran will lie about his past, each time coming up with a different story.
Early life
Eran was born in slums. He was the only child of his hardworking parents. It was hard to make ends meet but they managed. That is, until one day, Eran's mother left, leaving him and his father alone.
At first, it wasn't so bad. But, unbeknownst to Eran, his father suffered silently. He started feeling sicker and sicker.
At this point, Eran was already helping his father, taking on delivery jobs and trying to sell stuff he found. That's when he discovered that lies sell for more than junk. He managed to accumulate enough money to hire spots, other kids warning him about incoming guards. He didn't earn much, but enough to help his father's in everyday life.
Sadly, his father's state was only getting worse, and at some point, Eran was alone. Since then, he had to face everything by himself, while living on the streets.
The fall
Even though it was tough, Eran knew he couldn't stop. His lies and scams grew more and more. He began selling "magical potions" (although he never claimed any of his potions can heal wounds or cure sickness, out of the memory of his father). He came in contact with local urchin gangs and later a thieves guild. While he used his silver tongue to distract the potential victims, his "friends" looked through their belongings. Thieves taught him how to read and write, and he discovered that he's very good at forging documents. So the scams grew even more.
He started traveling. Changing disguises and personas wherever he went.
The pact
And then, one day, his life got turned upside down.
Even though he scammed many people, Eran never turned away from those wounded or sick. This day, while going back to the room of the inn he rented, he found a man, beaten up and bleeding out. There was no one around. Still, he picked up the stranger and decided to bring him to the nearest temple.
But as soon as Eran touched him, his fingers started glowing, and he felt something leaving his body. Some of the stranger's wounds healed. He wasn't in any danger of bleeding out now.
Eran tried to rationalize it with being tired after a long day of work.
And a few days later, when he was buying supplies to leave the city, something weird happened.
In the middle of the day, stars started showing up above him. And even though he was just maneuvering through the narrow streets, suddenly he was standing on a meadow.
In front of him, there was a big wolf, whose fur had all the colors of the sky. And just like with the sky above them, it was covered with stars.
The wolf spoke, its voice calm and kind. Its' name was Zetali. He was sent to observe Eran as in Eran's blood, there were a few drops of a gods' blood. His original goal was to kill Eran as soon as his ancestry would show up, as his actions brought only a disgrace to his ancestor.
But Zetali chose a different option. He decided to see to Eran's growth, to prove that he can change. That not all hope is lost.
Without waiting for Eran's answer, Zetali bound himself to him, becoming his Patron.
An unwilling bond
Eran was pissed for two reasons. First, an unknown being just decided to bind itself to him, robbing him of his freedom.
But way deeper, he was hurt. If what happened a few days earlier, and he cured someone with his own powers, then why didn't that power awaken those years ago, when he needed it. When his father needed it.
At first, he tried to travel as far as he could and disguising himself, hoping he could outrun or fool the wolf. It didn't work.
Then, he tried to ignore him. He went back to traveling and scamming people here and there. He even enjoyed some of the new powers he discovered. In secret, he would even sometimes heal people without them noticing.
But once in a while, Zetali would show up, either to stop him from doing something really bad or to give him some senseless task.
Now
To be fair, scamming people is way more tiring than one might think. And even it becomes boring after some time. Because of that, Eran decided that he wants to experience some new thrills, and new ways to earn money fast, but without being tied to some other organizations that would take their "protection fee" from him. So he decided to become an adventurer.
Bonds
Around 3.5-4 years ago, Eran encountered Vistra, drunk and beaten up after tavern brawl under a guise of Alexius Yeret. Trying to make it as subtle as possible, he healed her wounds. Additionally, to save his face he sold her some fake potions that would ease her exhaustion and bring her some luck.
Around 3 years ago, this time playing the role of Marcus Trevin, an honest trader (his alibi persona), he was ambushed by Kobolds when traveling from city to city. He survived only thanks to a lucky encounter with paladin named Allain. She fought off kobolds and saved his life.
After that, he gathered enough intel and resources to find her again and repay her for saving him. She doesn't know yet that Eran is the same trader she met at that time.
