Youngest daughter of a Baron in Rhyl, Gillian escaped her family after discovering a terrifying secret. She now associates herself with the Thieves' Guild, harnessing her skillset to uncover hidden truths.
Gillian is not a stranger to secrets. Being born in a family of low nobility, her whole life was spent in a careful manoeuvre around rumours and scandal. Her father is the baron of a mining operation near the elven city of Rhyl. As the youngest of many siblings, Gil knew early on that any substantial inheritance was unlikely to come her way. Therefore - she never gave much thought to her parents’ business and social climbing, in turn being mostly neglected by her parents and tutors for her apparent lack of discipline. Instead, she learnt at a young age how to leverage a knife to open a cookie jar, sneak past servants, and lockpick closed doors to discover hidden rooms.
It wasn't until later in life, through her parents' connections with various guilds, that Gil realised her honed talents for mischief had a market. People were willing to pay handsomely for services that involved breaking in, retrieving certain items, or discreetly acquiring secrets. She became invested in these odd-jobs, using her skills to earn some repute within the thieves’ guild. This involvement with the guild didn’t go unnoticed for long however, as she was soon discovered and fined a small fortune, which her parents discreetly paid for. They were willing to sweep her transgressions under the rug, but not without consequences. Gil was placed under strict house arrest, her every move monitored, and her life subjected to rigorous training and formal education in order to reform her. One day however, she tried to snuck away to meet with an associate of the thieves guild’ only to discover a hidden corridor in a dark-lit room, leading to an elevator. Thinking she might have found a way out, she took the elevator down and descended into the mines.
To this day, the memories of her escape into the mines stick with her. Haunted by nightmares, visions of green mists that seemed to carry strange whispers and otherworldly silhouettes. The ghosts she had encountered there had etched themselves into her mind, their anguished faces forever imprinted on her memory. In an attempt to escape the nightmares, she fled from her family’s estate, instead finding a modest room at an inn to stay in temporarily. It was there that she learned that workers employed by her family had been disappearing in the mines for the past few weeks, their bodies never found. The questions and fear among the people increased as more and more miners started disappearing.
Gil now tries to stay in the shadows, for being recognized as the Baron’s daughter would put her in more trouble now that rumours and warnings are about her family and the disappearances were spreading like wildfire. She has taken up jobs at the thieves guild again, reconnecting with old friends, trying to forget her past life and focus on what’s ahead. However, during sleepless nights and dreary days, the question still burns in the back of her head; What did the mining operation of Rhyl uncover?
