Past Life

Watch grew up in a small community that resides around a grove within one of the many forests that occupy Anacra. His family like all who reside here are tasked with the protection of a long lived tree within the center of the grove. There are no names here just titles. Titles based on what your families role to protection the of the grove is. His Family was in charge of watching. They would watch from the outskirts of the forest keeping track of all the other people who were living their lives outside. They were to be kept hidden and were to never interact or interfere with any on the outside. Only if an outsider was to get too close were they to interact.
 
Watch started his duties very young a mere seedling a short time after he spoke his first words and walked his first steps. He learnt how to disguise himself how to watch others without them knowing they are being watched. When he wasn't watching he was learning all the languages and practices of those outside. So if he ever had to interact with one of the outsiders he already understood their language and their ways. He also learned of how to wield spells and how to cast them. In case the need ever arises that his name was to change from Watcher to warrior. This only happens if an outsider crosses the threshold of the outer forest ring and the outside world. No matter how large or how small how frightened or scared the grove comes first.
 
Watch never needed to change his name to warrior the illusions and omens placed around the outer forest walls were often enough to scare would be intruders. So Watch would look out at the world outside for days, weeks and years. He would see as armies crashed through villages. Bandits raiding nomad groups. Good leaders fall as Worse ones Rise. And so Watch would sit from the sidelines knowing he could do something. He could have stopped that mad man with the knife that stopped the family who were travelling along the road. He could have ushered the surviving refugees to safety within the walls of the grove. But he didn't he just watched and remembers all the people he could have saved.
 
He would often ask his parents "why must we let those people suffer. We can help some them at least surely! They can't all be dangerous to the grove". But the answer was always the same "The Grove before all else young one. You will understand. Give it Time". And time he did more years past. More people hurt on the outside that he knew he could help. But he never understood we could help them. Why are we here protecting a tree that hasn't done anything for anyone in centuries! When there is living people out there Dying!
 
Time continued and watch kept watching. Until one day a auspicious individual came to the forest edge. The individual saw through to Watch even found the other watchers spread across the forest walls. Apparently this man was a recruiter of sorts from a certain Ioth Academy. A school of magic for young saplings to grow and evolve their magical ability. Apparently the grove had grown a small following for the magic that's been coming from there. Watch was offered to be enrolled in Ioth. After a long discussion he was permitted. On the base that on his return he would be able to better protect the grove and teach the others what he learned.
 
Watch arrived at Ioth in class 6865. But he hasn't stopped watching always under a mask of a another nameless student never showing his true self. Not until he finds some he can trust. After all this time he thinks he might have.
