Physical Description

Tall and in good shape, working out as an anxiety management method means that he's well-built.

Body Features

Numerous belt scars across his back and over his shoulders; he's sensitive about people seeing them and doesn't like talking about how he got them (but when he does it's usually in a "haha that was fucked up huh?" mutual trauma discussion).

Facial Features

Keeps a short, neat beard. Intense eyes, especially when he stares at someone wide-eyed. Exceptionally friendly smile.

Physical quirks

His left arm aches before it rains or snows. He's sensitive in general, prone to ticklishness, very fond of being touched kindly and having his beard scratched.

Apparel & Accessories

Thanks to dating a person who has a special interest in tailoring and needlecraft, almost all of Adinal's clothes have been altered to fit him better over the course of the months they've spent quarantined together, and Zalel has made a few casual-wear pieces for him as well as a couple of very fancy cosplay outfits. Most often seen in a t-shirt, zippered hoodie, and lounge pants (used to be jeans when he left the house, but he opts for more comfortable apparel while on quarantine). Rarely wears a tank top or goes shirtless in the house because he doesn't like people to see his scars. Hates being cold, puts on a hoodie at 65 degrees or below.

Mentality

Education

In his final year of a psychology major / English minor degree at SUNY New Paltz. Was a shaky student until his sophomore year of high school, when he got out of his mother's house and into an environment that wasn't holding him back; managed to earn a scholastic scholarship once he was working closer to his full potential. Currently holds a 3.79 GPA.

Employment

Before coronavirus, had a work-study job in the writing lab at the campus library. Has been picking up as much pay-by-the-piece copywriting for websites as he can while on quarantine. Recently started making OnlyFans videos with Kier and has been shocked at how well received they've been.

Mental Trauma

Adinal was physically and emotionally abused by his ultra-religious mother starting at age 7 and didn't get away from her until his best friend's parents let him stay in their house at age 16, and has a lot of lingering damage from the way he was treated by her and his siblings piling on from her behavior, both visible and invisible. He's prone to nightmares, especially if he's sleeping on the floor or cold, has serious difficulty trusting women, and the sound of Ella Fitzgerald's music can trigger him into a total shutdown.

Intellectual Characteristics

Adinal is strongly driven by a desire to understand himself and others, which is what lead him to major in psychology. He's thoughtful and considerate, curious, and very kind (on purpose, as a rejection of the hatred his mother tried to raise him to feel about himself and anyone who didn't conform to evangelical standards).

Morality & Philosophy

Adinal was raised in an evangelical Christian household and underwent the standard Sunday brainwashing for the first sixteen years of his life; the only parts of the Bible he found anything of value in were the words of Jesus, and he could never understand how people who named themselves for faith in the man could still claim the name while ignoring his teachings so completely. Despite having been abused by those who should have cared most for him, Adinal still tries to live by treating others the way he would like to be treated and not treating them in retaliation for the way he has been treated.
 
If Adinal considers a person a friend, he will give them the shoes off his feet and the shirt off his back if they need them. He's fiercely loyal to anyone who proves they care about him.

Adinal knew he liked boys in grade school, and he did a bad enough job of hiding it that his religious mother tried to beat it out of him for the next nine years. He's proud to love who he loves, even if that does mean he's been tweaking his self-descriptor from 'gay' to 'bisexual' to the more flexible and encompassing 'queer'.

Adinal is male and he's very comfortable with being male. Even though he's done some crossplay with Zalel, it's just for fun, it's not something he identifies with. He puts a lot of work into cultivating his non-toxic masculinity in defiance of how he was brought up.

Taboos

Adinal can't stand to see someone being taken advantage of and will intervene in any way he can. Despite his gentle nature, he's willing to throw hands at Nazis, bigots, and sexual predators, and boy packs a punch.

• Faiza and Vivaan Chowdhury, Kalpit's parents, helped Adinal escape his mother's house. Faiza is very protective of Adinal to the point of threatening violence to Adinal's mother. Not much contact these days, but occasionally she'll check in on him.

• Laila Webster, Adinal's mother, deceased January 2020.

Family Ties

Adinal emancipated himself from his mother and disowned his family when he was 17. He kept his last name not out of any fondness for it but because he can't think of anything that sounds more like the person he wants to present himself as.
 
His family reached out to him at the end of 2019 when Laila went into hospice care; Adinal told them he'd come visit and then didn't, because making his mother wait for him for the rest of her life was the only effective revenge he could get for the hell she put him through.

Religious Views

Adinal was raised in an Evangelical household, but felt like the things he was being taught were bullshit even when he was younger. He's read the Bible, but the way Evangelicals cherry-pick for things to persecute other people about, he cherry-picked the things he wanted to pay attention to: mostly the words of Jesus, some interesting bits of the Old Testament, anything that supported the idea that the greatest good people can do in life is to try to make heaven on earth, which is done by treating others with compassion and care, especially those who are most in need of help. He would never self-identify as a Christian, but tries to be Christlike just in pursuit of leading a life that won't fill him with shame to review when he comes to the end of it.

Social Aptitude

Adinal tends to be hyperaware of the moods of the people around him, which is why he gets stressed out easily in crowds, too many voices to monitor for signs of anger. He's pretty adept at defusing tensions before they rise, and has no qualms about ditching a situation before it boils over to keep himself away from conflict. (That said, while he'll sometimes fold and scurry if he's the target of someone's anger, he will punch anyone in the face for coming after his loved ones; Adinal won't stand his ground until he has someone to defend, but then he will do so fearlessly.)

Hobbies & Pets

Adinal loves video games, especially RPGs and third-person shooters. He really dislikes first-person shooters, though. His favorite game franchises are Final Fantasy and Gears of War.
 
He's also a fan of anime, favoring mechas (because huge badass robots) and magical girls (he really likes team dynamics and magical girls tend to have the most rewarding ones he's found).
 
He works out more to relieve frustration than with any goal of strength or sculpting; he's in excellent physical shape because he usually ends up doing some sort of exercise every day, even if it's just pushups and situps on his bedroom floor.
 
He's a competent cook, but he prefers to have company in the kitchen even if the other person isn't helping with the cooking.

Speech

Adinal is soft-spoken and chooses his words carefully, sometimes leading to long pauses mid-sentence as he searches for just the right word to continue. He only very rarely raises his voice. Sometimes he talks to himself. If he's happy, he'll hum or sing; he only sings loudly when he's in the shower or very, very drunk.
