67. Where the Dead Wait Report

General Summary

10th Nymm, 999 YK

  • Leaving where we left off, the party is at a cottage on a hill in the Mournland, and a horde of undead is coming for them.
  • They park the wagon round the side of the cottage and send the horses back to Avrahk Mbar'ost.
  • Warden goes into the cellar and gets screamed at by the corpse of Curla Hunwitch.
  • Lozaal and Kalshana explore much of the cottage.
  • Lozaal gets stuck to the writing desk in the office, and it takes both him and Kalshana to pull him free. Stupid sticky furniture.
  • The harpsichord in the office plays a discordant lullaby, which annoys Lozaal, so he destroys the reanimated severed feet that are playing it. That'll show them. They let out a soft "noooo" as they die.
  • Lozaal explores the storage room and finds the ball bearings, caltrops, hunting traps, acid and alchemist's fire. Score!
  • The Silk Arrows set up the bear traps at the doors.
  • Lozaal and Kal explore the bedroom. Lozaal opens the wardrobe with mage hand, releasing a stinky cloud of poisonous gas. Gross.
  • Inside the wardrobe is a severed head with the wolf head symbol of Karrnath carved into it. Double gross.
  • Lozaal returns to the kitchen and hands out the stuff.
  • Warden barricades the cellar door with one of the tables in there, and then gets Waterden to take the journal from the corpse.
  • Reading the journal, Warden discovers that the sign in the ceiling of the cellar is a necromantic beacon, summoning the undead to itself, and that it can be reversed.
  • They need to destroy the five necromantic foci around the house, and then spill some of the necromancer's blood with a magic blade (Jagged's?). Using the blood, they then need to smear the sigil on the roof.
  • They're out of time, the undead are on them!
  • They fortified the cottage, and Warden's flame wall further funnels the undead where they want them. It's not just zombies and skeletons, there are also ghouls, a ghast, and some shadows in the horde.
  • As they fight, an undead warforged wearing a human skin charges out of the mist, yelling "Blood for Jagged!" over and over again.
  • Ugh
  • Throughout the fight, they locate and destroy the necromantic foci (sorry Shemp). Dax shot the severed head in the wardrobe, Lozaal smashed Shemp, and Dax shot the displacer beast head (after Lozaal discovered the wolf of Karrnath on it's neck). Warden killed Jagged with a guiding bolt.
  • Warden cuts the necromancer's body and smears the symbol, turning the undead.
  • The Oracle of War activates itself when the battle ends, puffing out purple smoke, and recites what seems to be a section of prophecy. It then begins repeating "Third protocol activated."
  • Jayne exclaims "what the fuck was that?"
  • Zedd flies away with the Oracle, in case it's going to explode. It doesn't, but she waits a bit to be safe.
 

The Oracle's Prophecy

"When dark lanterns flicker in the light of a silver torch, and six moons cast long the shadows of the tower, the wild heart stirs and thrashes at it's cage. The court of the king of beggars must quell the beast's rage, with the aid of knowledge from a bygone age."
