CD Issue 6: Dance like there is no tomorrow

General Summary

Our heroes arrived to the Canopy Cotillion Ball at the Aerie in style, draped in their new finery, via Malware's personal dirigible. This had no pilot, which was extra fancy. After departure, they were greeted by Sidney Strand, who was there with his date Rick Slate. Paladin is somewhat starstruck. Malware gets off some serious eye rolls after being asked throughout the evening which of their entourage they were dating.   Sid took for the requisite greeting of Malware's father, Martin Strand, and their stepmother Patience Strand. The two were fairly civil until Malware's mother, Charlene Kingsley arrived in her familiar trashed state heaping affection on their only child. Her date Debbie Reid, a yoga instructor, seemed somewhat cool, if not overwhelmed by how inebriated her date was. Styx took the opportunity to connect with Debbie and ask her to keep an eye on their mother and let them know if things got out of hand. Martin and Patience found good reason to excuse themselves and the crew entered the ball.   Inside, Aliena quickly realized that her cousin was there and had a panic attack. Her friends got her outside on the balcony, but Charlene followed. Aliena tried the fainting goat routine to no avail. Eventually they got rid of Styx's trying-too-hard-to-be-cool mother. Aliena decided this was all too much to bear and made herself scarce.   Siren worked the crowd, trying to pick up intel. She was not entirely comfortable at the party and kept to the shadows.   Richie decided he wanted to meet the St George family in hopes of finding his old friend Fireheart. Malware convinced Sid to make the proper introductions. Richie found himself face to face with Hiram St George, current patriarch of the St George Family, CEO of Ophidicorp, and former villian Draconis. Hiram expressed his regret for his past behavior and professed his life long attempt at penance. Triss Salinger sidled up attempting to keep Richie in check, who was getting a bit aggressive with his old foe.   Realizing their stepbrother was listening in, Malware tried to distract Sid, but ended up just revealing that they were into some superhero biz. Sid seemed surprisingly ok with this.   At this point there as quite a commotion as a Covenant Baron arrived, Alabaster, alone. No Baron had been allowed in the city since the Trinity War, as part of the reconciliation that Prince Albion has negotiated. Triss was noticeably worried that Richie would make a scene and kept him close.   Malware tried to hack Alabasters dirigible to no avail, as dark covenant magic seemed to cloak it. It was not the last time their tech would fail them that night.   The Baroness was intrigued by Siren, approaching her and musing that she seemed familiar. This only heightened Siren's discomfort as she had hidden from the Covenant her whole life.   The Baroness was quickly followed by Engineer, who had Blast Furnace and her grandson Clockwork with them. Hiram and Triss were floored that the baroness dared bring Blast Furnace with her.   Richie realized that he was actually his old friend Jacob, long thought dead. He had been rebuilt into some sort of cyborg. Richie approached his friend only to get the cold shoulder, and when he persisted Blast Furnace insisted he didn't know the boy.   The final baron to arrive was Minotaur with a large familial entourage including Bronte , Typhon, and twin daughters Cherry and Scilla.   Riche was introduced by Hiram to his granddaughter, Jenny St George, ace reporter who had interviewed the Dissidents after their battle with The Chemist (Editor - CD Issue 4!). Jenny, bored by the event, asked Richie to dance and they headed up to the dance floor.   Meanwhile, the Barons were ushered to the stage to make a formal explanation of their presence in the city, which our heroes understood to be some sort of peace overture (this did not play well with any of them.)   As if on cue, the glass wall of the Egg exploded. Knightfall made a grand entrance, angry and ready for war.

Rewards Granted

Aliena took 'Symbol of Authority' from the legacy playbook, allowing her to leverage the authority of the Deyan people's diplomatic immunity.   Paladin took 'Whats that thing' from the Innocent playbook, allowing him to ask for guidance from modern people.
