Adding such a huge feature and making it part of the WA subscription might really need a raised price for the higher tiers to make it worth the time it would take to develop it. There are free options out there, or affordable software if you are planning on making a lot of maps.
There are many programs built around this already, I feel like this would draw from World Anvil's intended purpose. A partnership would be best. This would be like Inkarnate attempting to implement the same features as World Anvil.
I assume that it would be a lot of work to get something even somewhat decent. Even though I would love for this to exist specifically for WA, I think we would benefit more of a partnership of WA with mapmaking tools like inkarnate.
This muddles the intended vision of world anvil and takes a lot of development resources to do well. I would recommend using another program.
include different types of map templates like hexagons (for world or region maps) and squares (for dungeon and skermish/encounters), line and marking options (like solid or dotted, color and transparency), as well as labels and note pads. also a tool to mark down different terrain features from roads and rivers to doors and windows. oh and layers as well to create multi leveled maps.
I would be open to a different map maker, I tend to just use Adobe illustrator or photoshop. Would be nice to have a companion app
Plans to have intergation into Project Deios. World Anvil isn't a Map Making site.
Maybe a partnership would be more of an interest to you? Something where you could partner with sites like Inkarnate for a double deal that would split profits between you? I just feel like it would take just as much work to manage a map making site as it would a site like this.
One way to achieve this is perhaps collab between World Anvil and Megasploot that makes the dungeon draft and Wonderdraft tools (which are fantastic). I think they already support each other and have contact.
This would be a whole other product that would take just as much work as WA itself. I think they're planning on having this kind of interaction with Project Deios though.
This is something that is way outside of scope for WA. WA is to create articles, link everything together and having a community around it. Map making is such a different thing.
I think Dimitris said that WA will never be a map making software
I don't like to use negative points, so I'm giving a tiny amount. WA will have integration with Project Deios (developed by the people behind DungeonFog) once it's ready. As others have pointed out, map making is a huge undertaking which makes integration of third-party apps a more viable solution.
Creating a mapping software is a MASSIVE undertaking not "slap abit of a new section" I cannot say for sure but if WA was ever to create one it wouldn't be under the same price since they will need probably an additional team to do so. Not to mention that there are already many amazing cartography software out there and that WA will be integrated with Deios.
I've never had a problem working through map making sites like Inkarnate and uploading to WA.
I believe WA is working on integration with other existing map making software. I personally believe what you are asking for is outside the scope of World Anvil. There are many great map makers out there already and World Anvil does not need to compete with them.
