Manuscript Chapter Synopsis for Readers

User Interface (UI) / User Experience (UX) · Manuscripts · Created by PatheticBarrel
accepted

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

Currently, when Authors create a Synopsis on Manuscripts, only they can view the Synopsis. Only the "Back Cover" Synopsis of the entire Manuscript is available for readers to get an idea of what is happening. I am suggesting that Synopsis for Chapters be able to be readable, possibly by checkbox selection.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

By making the Synopsis available to readers, Authors that create more serial stories can give their readers a quick background on where the current scene is set, while also allowing authors to have a short blurb about each chapter if this wish. Making this a selectable option in the Synopsis field means that only those that need such a feature use it, instead of forcing it on those that only use Synopsis fields for their own usage.

Follow up

Thanks for the update Dimitris! I do hope it gets accepted, even as a much later addition to Manuscripts. <3
Yay! The Manuscript Synopsis being visable for readers is now accepted! Happy day!

The Team's Response

This did not get much support, so it is not accepted as is. I will have to discussion with Janet and the rest of the team before giving a final answer.   I am accepting it for the time being as a Discussion Topic and will update after our team meeting on Wednesday afternoon     UPDATE This is accepted

This would be great for serial stories!

Please. I do this already, but I would like it to be more of a part of the function of Manuscripts.

I like to think a funny or interesting teaser can do wonders to get people to invest their time in reading, especially, if the Chapter Titles, say follow an overall theme or are short, so maybe not each one inspires a lot of interest on its own.

I would love this. A simple synopsis of the previous chapter would help a lot as a brief recap of what happened especially for stories that does not regularly update.

You can theoretically do this already by just adding such a blurb in the scene text and distinguishing it from the rest of the normal text with formatting. I could see the use of this feature though if the synopsis blurb for the chapter was also displayed for example in the Table Of Contents of the manuscript's landing page.

I usually have to reread previous chapters in serial stories. This would make for a convenient "Previously on..." to make the reader experience smoother.
