What functionality is missing?
Many article templates are currently designed to be used to describe both an individual object, as well as a class of object. For example, if I am writing about a specific vehicle belonging to my characters (say, the LZ 129 Hindenburg) there is a prompt in which I can specify what class of vehicle it is (Hindenburg-class airship). However the linked class article is the exact same template as the individual vehicle template.
It stands to reason that a different set of prompts are required to describe a class of vehicle from the specific vehicle. A specific vehicle has a date of construction, a manufacturer, an owner, a date of destruction, and so forth. A class of vehicle has different properties, such as inventor, patent, propulsion.
This same issue exists with other article templates: buildings (perhaps I want to describe a particular fortification, or maybe I want to describe a type of fortification belonging to X culture), items (a specific necklace, or a type of necklace), settlements, etc.
The suggestion
The suggestion is simple but not easy: separate article templates into both a definite and indefinite form, and offer separate prompts for each.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
Having article templates separated into definite/indefinite will streamline the creation of articles by allowing users to only consider the prompts that are relevant to that article. By having an indefinite category (the class of vehicle/building/item etc.), the user can describe all the vehicles of that type more easily, without having to include it in each individual article.
Caveat
I know that this suggestion is quite a big change, and would involve a lot of work. I therefore expect it might generate some discussion. I also know that there has been a similar suggestion made previously and declined (https://www.worldanvil.com/community/voting/suggestion/ea492fc9-e434-4be4-ae66-1a9c19b13a57/view). I do believe, however, that my suggestion gives this a more concrete direction to follow.
The Team's Response
This suggestion did not reach the required number of votes during its voting period
This will lead to a massive number of templates for little to no gain that will make it harder to navigate and find what you want. In addition this would have made article connectivity a nightmare to manage.
