timelines date calendar

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

When I'm writing history I want to have a fast way to create a general list of events for a specific period of time, usually a year but I can also see this working for any sort of date of length and time.   I would like to be able to have an article that I can use to create a general summary of a period of time, whether it is a certain year or a decade; be able to link people, items, orgs, myths/legends, conflicts and similar articles together; @ the date article; ability to link the date to calendar; essentially the "historical entry" from the timeline as an article with more functionality and linking that can be independent of the timeline.   I can also see this being linked to the "multiple eras" suggestion, idr what the outcome of that was.

Follow up

This could also link to the death or birth of a character Have the ability to give the date an alias/nickname Link to the evolution of cultures traditions/rituals, languages, natural laws, conditions(?), materials

The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion! This sparked a long discussion in the team and we've thought of multiple options we could implement. However, they all require more investigation and internal discussion before implementation, as they involve changing how other related systems work too. Therefore, we're accepting this under investigation!

I would love to see a connection between articles and timelines/chronicals. To be able to work in either end. Chronical/timeline events in articles and vice versa

I would love to have a better template for history entries as articles, it would just be so neat

I could use something like this, perhaps if the periods mentioned by the OP were mapped to timeline eras? I'm in the middle of writing a series of articles with details of specific eras for a very long timeline. I've ended up creating a parent article to host the timeline, summarised each era inside it and hosted the detail articles underneath with links from the summary paragraphs. It would be neat if I could also bolt the era detail articles directly onto the timeline. Having the ability to link a generic article to an era rather than only events achieves this for me and I think is in line with what the OP wants?

Interesting, I guess each timeline would have a unique ID already, I can see me using this. Might work well with the Session Reports.
