Make breadcrumbs work on category pages

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

The BBcode to add breadcrumbs adds an excellent navigation tool to my article pages. I have breadcrumbs on every article page, I love them so much!   Unfortunately breadcrumbs don't work on category pages. I really really would like them to, because:
A) they would be really useful there because I have deep category trees and I don't want viewers to suddenly get lost when they open a category instead of an article
B) they would be sate my obsessiveness that forces me to format category pages to look exactly like article pages

How does this feature request address the current situation?

Making breadcrumbs work on category pages would improve the presentation of navigational information to viewers. It would unify the methods I have at my disposal rather than me having to use different navigation menus for articles and categories. It would remove the need for my inner perfectionist to create an article page to replace every category page (of which there are dozens) just to allow the use of breadcrumbs everywhere.

What are other uses for this feature request?

I dream of a world where category pages are treated equally with article pages. Both are given the same rights, the same attention -- the same love. Would that everyone would give their category pages the privilege of conveying diverse and colorful pieces of world information instead of being doomed to remain only neglected jumbles of article blocks with centered page headers.

The Team's Response

I am actually a bit surprise with how little support this gathered.
  • @hanhula, not a bug, the system is called article breadcrumb and it will need further implementation to work on categories
  • I cannot accept this right now due to the amount of support vs cost of development - but please feel free to try again on this in a bit of time
