military-conflicts locations unorthodox new under-water
What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
I think we can use more locations for the Conflict Template to cover more unorthodox battle fields.
So I'm working on a submission for the Summer Camp 2022 prompt for a military conflict resolved with skilled leadership. My conflict involves
merfolk fighting crab people at the bottom of the sea.
The location types are Land, Urban, Naval, Air, Planetary, Space, Extraplanar, Stadium and Arena.
This is
kind of a naval fight, kind of a land fight, and
kind of an urban fight but none of the labels really apply to a fantasy fight on and near the sea floor fought without naval vessels.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
I would suggest adding "aquatic" war for generic fights between water breathing creatures, and "under water naval" for submarine warfare.
While we are at it, we can add "Subteranean" as a location for potential wars. I kind of want to add conflicts between biomes, like if the land and sea folk go to war with each other (like the movie
Pacific Rim or surface dwellers and subteranean people go to war like the Eloi and Morlocks of HG Wells'
The Time Machine. Not sure what to label that as. "Inter-Biome" fits okay but I'm open to someone coming up with a different name.
What are other uses for this feature request?
More options is always good. If people have other suggestions for exotic locations for conflicts to take place in, I would not be opposed to it.
I don't personally write sci-fi much but "cyberspace" could easily be a conflict setting or "the media" or "hearts and minds" could be settings for a more espionage based ideological cold war where the goal is to control thought and/or free people's minds.
"Hearts and minds" could also work for angels and demons fighting over mortal souls though that could qualify as Extraplanar.
Maybe "the electorate" could be location for a conflict between political parties.
Anyway, more options is usually better than fewer options.
