Easily resolved by adding specific prompt questions to Item template.
Nice idea, although it could easily be edited into the item template. I certainly wouldn't mind it either way. Plus it would finally make the template numbers an even 28 and a perfect shape on the dashboard which would really help my OCD :P
I think it would be better to add fields to the item template. We have a ton of templates as is, and adding to them will cause a "template overload" of sorts.
Food is either an item or a tradition. Dimi has said many times that specific templates are actually not worth it - maybe we can add things to the item or tradition like a comestibles or something but not a new template.
Thinking on it, this does feel like something better off being a tab in the Items template, rather than a standalone template. I am, however, otherwise in favour of it. Comments below mine also provide some excellent suggestions about what prompts to include, many of which I think are pretty good ('preparation,' 'species/ethnicitis relevant,' etc.). Having this be a tab under Items would help keep down on clutter, while making it easier for people not coding wizards to have some prompts to work with and headings that look appropriate.
Food would be great for either its own article template or as a subset of prompts for the Item template.
I'd rather have a tab on the Item template that is food-based We have the Construction tab, but its headers are a bit of a stretch for cooking. The Culinary Tab, on the Item Template I suggest as an alternative, would have prompts like "Preparation" "Process" "Arrangement" "When Consumed" "Related Traditions, Rituals, Festivals" "Related Species and Ethnicities" and "Related Events" Other than that, the idea of a specific template just for edibles/food feels extremely specific.
It would be cool if the food templates could specify which species it’s meant for and what happens if someone outside of that species eats or drinks it (which could be another specifier). I’m thinking of that liquid in the Percy Jackson books that healed Demigods but was toxic to humans.
After checking the URL SoulLink shared, I can see why this might get declined. However, I do believe that it would be great to have food as a separate template. Yes, food is an item, the style is tradition and a recipe is a document; but it would be more convenient to have it all in one article rather than divided over three. It would allow for more intricate prompts like variations of a recipe between grandma's (no grandma apple pie is the same after all). Sometimes, entire traditions are linked to one single (source of) food. There's a lot to explore here, so hopefully worth giving a shot. :)
Yes! It would be different from species which is usually the go-to for plants and animals, because, while these things are typically the ingredients to food dishes, they are not the dish themselves. I suggest the new template be called "FOOD" or "EDIBLE" or something with subtypes "Snack, Meal, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Dish, Delicacy, Entree, Drink, etc" I appreciate you bringing this idea to the forefront! God bless you. <3
This has been declined before and will not happen: https://www.worldanvil.com/community/voting/suggestion/e18198b0-3feb-4618-a86c-5690f1857c6e/view Please create a list of prompts you would like to see for food so they can be added to the item template as a tab. You could make your suggestion here: https://github.com/worldanvil/scratchpad/issues/20 Then it will likely happen during the template clean-up project :)
Agreed! As much as it could be shoehorned into item or tradition, it feels really shoehorned when you do so. Food is such an important part of culture!
