Add Recent Pins or Favorite Pins Feature for Maps

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

Currently, when adding pins to maps in World Anvil, users must manually select or recreate each pin, which can be cumbersome. For users who utilize custom HTML pins, the process requires locating a previous pin, copying its content, and pasting it into a new pin. This workflow is repetitive and inefficient, especially for maps with many similar pins or recurring formats.   The lack of a "recent pins" or "favorite pins" feature forces users to repeatedly perform these steps, which disrupts the creative flow and adds unnecessary complexity to map creation and editing.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

Introducing a Recent Pins or Favorite Pins feature would streamline the process of adding and managing pins on maps. Users could quickly select from a list of recently used or saved pins directly while working on a map.
Additionally, a right-click copy-paste functionality would further simplify the process by allowing users to:
1. Copy an existing pin on the map.
2. Place the copy at a new location.
3. Open a pre-filled pin creation screen for easy editing and customization.   This would eliminate repetitive tasks, reduce errors, and make map editing faster and more user-friendly.

What are other uses for this feature request?

  • Consistent Map Design: Worldbuilders could ensure uniformity in their maps by reusing pins with identical formatting or content.
  • Collaborative Mapping: Teams working on a shared map could easily access a standardized set of pins, fostering consistency and efficiency.
  • Complex Mapping Scenarios: DMs, game designers, or creators managing intricate maps with numerous layers of detail could quickly populate pins without disrupting their workflow.
  • Educational or Informational Uses: In contexts where maps are used to convey layered information (e.g., timelines, geographical overlays), users could easily manage recurring pin types or templates.
  • By implementing these features, World Anvil could significantly enhance the usability and versatility of its map tool, benefiting users across a range of creative and practical applications.
