Autolink Autolinker Categories Articles Navigation
What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
Currently, when using the Autolinker, you are only able to autolink other articles, not Categories. It is possible to link categories manually, but not with the Autolinker, which makes things unwieldy when referencing a category multiple times.
There is a workaround to have a category redirect to an article, but this creates redundancy, and removes a user's ability to navigate back to a higher category or to a lesser section. (An example might be navigating to a Continent, then a Region, then a Country. If you redirect, you can no longer look back up at the Region, as it links to an article rather than to a category.) Neither alternative is fully satisfactory.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
Adding the ability to autolink category tags as well as articles will greatly enable the usage of Categories for content, rather than strictly Articles, allowing one to see the relevant information about a category as well as utilizing the navigation capabilities.
What are other uses for this feature request?
This will also possibly lead to the depreciation of the 'Redirect to Article' feature. An alternative may be to allow navigation capabilities to an Article, but it seems semantic at that point.
The Team's Response
Thanks for the suggestion! We've added this to our backlog, but it might be a while until we can implement it.
