article edit templates custom-fields custom-field
What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
I know there's the possibility to make custom templates in the higher WA tiers. I don't quite want a custom template, but just the ability to add a field or two to a template OR on an article by article basis. Or even rename unused fields if that's easier.
My specific use case is the characters in my world. We list their powers and weaknesses, but the current character templates don't have a weaknesses column/box. It'd be nice to be able to expand the templates in a small way. I don't need the nuclear option of fully custom templates, but the ability to do a minor tweak would be nice.
(Alternatively, it would be nice to have abilities/weaknesses somehow separately stored in the current template if custom-fields is too big of an ask).
How does this feature request address the current situation?
Allowing us to add a few custom fields, if even by a limited count or ability, even if it has to be article-by-article vs. to the template, would allow the documentation of a world to be a little more customizable and a little better suited to specific/exceptional circumstances not covered by an existing template and not going so far as to need a fully custom template.
What are other uses for this feature request?
My use case is for characters so we can store a useful piece of information. In the wider field, it would allow other writers/players/etc to use the specific terminology they prefer, whether by adding a field or renaming an existing one to suit their purposes.
Perhaps there's a world where a building has an effect on characters, an area-effect. This could be nicely documented in its own field.
My only work around has been trying to get the information from players and format/style it appropriately in other fields, though this is not always an elegant or good looking solution. The biggest benefit here is some ease/consistency of allowing some piece of custom information to be displayed.
