Change the text of links that users don’t have permissions to view

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

When linking to an article, if the user does not have permission to view it the link does not appear, but the text remains the same. The text should be able to be changed so the user does not see the name of the article, keeping what it is a secret until they have permissions to view it.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

When a user doesn’t have permission to view the article, they would see the text replaced by something like “Unknown”, “Undiscovered”, or “[REDACTED]”. This can give an air of mystery to the players of a campaign, a sense of progression as more is unlocked, and can prevent spoilers while still giving some information on certain things.

What are other uses for this feature request?

The Team's Response

Hello there beans!   So, there is a solution for this, it's not easy to implement but we can create an manual override system that IF you wish it would change the text for those not having access to it.   That said this got a very small amount of support to justify the time. Feel free to resubmit this at a later time for voting :)

No. A lot of the time, you want the text there but only additional information to those who have access to it. If you want it removed, use subscriber containers.

This cannot replace current behavior or all of my articles will become ruined for 100% of readers. Text in my articles is FILLED with links to other articles, but most of these are private articles. If all those texts suddenly change to REDACTED, I'll be in trouble. Needs to be a new feature. Besides, these kinds of "secrets" can already be implemented with existing features with only a slight amount of work.

I think this is already possible, though with a lot of work, as in you can put in custom text within each individual link. Though if you want something standard across them all, that accounts for subscriber groups, that has yet to be possible.

This is difficult to judge because if the link is within a sentence then it can create some weird sentences. Maybe make this a toggleable option or a text field which when left empty doesnt change the default behaviour, when filled then it replaces the default with whatever's in the field.

This would be nice. And customizing it further could open path for linking to articles based on the credentials. Though even a [REDACTED]/[Restricted area] or similar version could do the job.

I think just having a secondary tag, show when permission is not met would be a good way to handle this.
