What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

*Preface: I believe this may only apply to Grandmaster+ members, due to the feature type being proposed.*   With the current state of questionable statuses of OGL games, I think it can be expected that many people will be leaping to other systems or creating their own (many of which do not have existing character sheets, or will need them in the future).   As someone who is code illiterate, I find myself struggling with the process of designing or creating a custom sheet. The alternate ways to do so through the current editor are also a bit less clear to me, which leaves me in a bit of a quandry for how to proceed.   My proposal is for a few possible solutions:
  1. The creation of a simplified module for creating sheets, such as a drag-drop option or insertable fields that can be edited with the necessary information.
  2. A creation of tutorials that can help clarify the steps and processes for everyone.
  3. A combo of both of the above. :)
 

How does this feature request address the current situation?

These feature suggestions would provide ways for this feature to be more accessible to everyone, and will help World Anvil be even more appealing during the uncertain/tumultuous times ahead.  

What are other uses for this feature request?

Improved functionality on the website, more friendly for those less familiar with coding or the current process.

Hello there, DramaticDragons! Thank you for taking the time to write this request and for your thoroughness. Unfortunately, coding character sheets does require technical knowledge and is very difficult to get around that as a system. For example, a drag-and-drop level of simplicity would be difficult to account for the adaptability of the code language. In any case, thank you for the suggestion - however, we will not go ahead with a simplified sheet creator. Instead, we will look into making the interface more presentable and upgrade our support for this later in the year!

    As someone who just spent 12 hours making a custom character sheet that looks okay as a sheet and in an article, I very much second this. I'm a software engineer who has worked with Twig in the past and even I found it a hassle - especially because I think WorldAnvil doesn't parse macros for (very wise) cybersecurity reasons.

    This! I can completely understand the people who say "I took the time to learn how to do this, so you can too," but the reality is, real life is too busy. Some of us only get a few hours a week to work on games, and learning to put together all of the moving parts of a character sheet is so complex for the way my brain works, that I look up several hours later and realize I've done no planning for the actual game. I would LOVE a drag and drop element some sort, but I have no idea if that's even possible. Sounds like a bunch of background work that may not be compatible with how the site currently works. One can hope though

    As an artist who is only partially code-savvy, I for sure would love to see this implemented! A lot of what's keeping me at bay as far as getting characters posted up is the pure terror from information overload!

    Ive only scratched the surface of World Anvil and have been thinking about making a youtube channel of my friends and i playing d&d, however with alot of stuff happening due to OGL i want my games to be free of being claimed or flagged and so im in the process of creating a personalized system to fit the world my friends and i are playing in and this same game is the one i am the game master of. i know this is not the place to make custom character sheets but if this could be added later down the road World Anvil will be my go to instead of reading up on already made content. Love World Anvil btw still getting used to it but this place is an amazing thing for writers and story tellers such as myself. Thank you guys! :)
