Add "Edit Article (Old Editor)" Button to Article View

editor UI UX streamline

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

Currently, if you want to edit an article whilst viewing it (for example, after editing it and checking it live, then noticing something you want to change), and you prefer to use the Old Editor, you have to click "Edit Article" up the top, then click through another menu to find "Use Old Editor."

How does this feature request address the current situation?

This suggestion would be to add a button on to the top of an article's live page, next to "Edit Article" that says something to the effect of "Edit Article (Old Editor)" so that you can click straight through.   This suggestion has nothing to do with which Editor is better or worse, and is not trying to say that the new Editor shouldn't be used. Rather, it is saying that given we already have the option to use the Old Editor, it would be nice to remove unecessary clicks / menus / loading times / pain points by adding a new button to do it immediately.

The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion! Having a button there means that many users (both new users and old users who might not have kept up with recent developments) will think the old editor is still a supported interface, which would be an issue, as that means new features won't be added and possible bug won't be fixed. At the same time, we understand your poinets (especially the one about certain features not having been ported over yet), so we'll add an opt-in feature to enable an old edit button in view mode that will be made available to users who joined World Anvil before a given date (to be decided).

The old editor is so much easier to work with. It loads faster, it's more visually appealing (at least to me), it's just better. With this it would take fewer clicks to get to a functional editor.

With the extended loading time of the new editor, this would do wonders towards streamlining quick edits on articles.

I joined World Anvil for the old (very easy to use visual) interface. The new one is extremely unpleasant for me to use...it becomes a joyless experience. Please bring back the old version for those that want to use it.

I would definitely use this! I'm using the new interface more, but somethings are just easier and faster in the old.

Until the old editor is rolled out, it would be nice it if it was still efficient to use.

Until the team finishes integrating all the features such as relationships into the character template, using the old editor is still necessary much of the time, even for those who prefer the new UI. While that's still the case, making the old edittor as accessible as possible seems like a no-brainer!
